(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I bought my girls last april and have had my girls for a little over a year now

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Well thats a hard one right now I have 6 of my own but last April my sons rental burned so he & his family are living with us right now so I have his two older hens (5yrs) in with my girls and we built a temporary coup for his 9 baby chicks, 2 turkeys and 2 ducks.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 3 red star and 3 speckled Sussex

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I did a google search before I bought my chickens to see what I would need to do and this site had the best information that I found so I keep coming back to learn more.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I crochet, paint, read, quilt and sew and play with chickens

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have three dogs. Inu a border collie Australian shepherd mix who is going strong at age 14, Violet a Australian shepherd and red heeler mix who is 3 and Sweat pea a Cairn terrier dachshund mix who is 6. I have five grown children with families and so far 7 grandchildren and my first great grand child is on his way. I live in the city but work at a school out in the country about a 13 mile drive each way but I love it. I am an Para-educator who works with Developmentally impaired students. Right now I have the summer off and out working in my yard, playing with grand kids and relaxing as I wait for my molting chicken to start looking less plucked.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you could join our community! Sounds like you have a lovely flock! How great that you have the summer off. It doesn't get any more relaxing than counting the new feathers on a molting chicken!!

Great to have you aboard enjoy all your adventures in life!

Welcome to BYC! You have a very nice, thorough introduction. Red Stars (Red Sex Links) are egg laying machines and I'm sure they will supply you with loads of them. Good luck with your flock.
