I am curious..

I think it's around 4 right now too. It's such a light dependent thing that summer is a different story, maybe last egg around 6 and then usually a girl in a box when I open up the coop in the morning in summer too but not right now. Egg production has slowed down dramatically around here.

Sometimes we find an egg at bedtime, after we’ve done the 4/5pm egg check (mostly out of habit -walk in the run area and check the nest boxes out of habit). Almost never any eggs after mid-afternoon, but we do a nest box check at bedtime bc it is a good way to see if anyone is broody, or bring picked on (therefore hiding in nest box rather than roosting).

It takes roughly 25 hours for an egg to form, so you may see the time of day change throughout the week. I can reliably go out midweek and find no eggs at lunch, but that all have laid that day by dinner. By the weekend one or two gals might be in the nest box first thing in the morning.
