I am having THE hardest time

finding info on my zoning/animal/poultry ordinances in Mason city IL!!

I have googled all sorts of different ways, wordings etc for at least 3 hrs now!!
We have a town of 2700 so there are rarely anyone in the town hall office...

I live on the edge of town; city addie; but the next house over is rural/country addie...

Next to me on the north side is a trailer park...I have a huge privacy fenced yard; then on the SOUTH side of my fence; I have another large lot 150 x 30 ish..then a cornfield or bean field; whichever
they choose to plant that season...
then a HUUGE field beside that with a house on the other side of that...(which si the country addie)
in front of me is nothing but fields...
behind my house is a smaller field and then a house...


Now I know going north a few blocks; they have 2 horses..I've taken the girls by there and we've looked many times at them..
but I CANNOT find info for my area on permits, number restrictions etc..

Can anyone give me ideas??

I've looked on BYC laws/search; but our town is NOT on there...and not anything near us is on there; except springfield & Decatur..but they are 1/2 hr and 45 min away...sooo...

DH just told me that up by the park (few blocks away) they have goats!!!

Looks like the County updated zoning info in 2008 (you are map 20 but they don't include the map - guess they want you to buy the plat book or call the zoning office): http://www.masoncountyil.org/Zoning_Ordinance.pdf

I would never try to get anyone in trouble with the law but alot of smaller towns do not enforce the chicken ordinances. You might try talking to some locals that have chickens and see what they say, avoid the properties that look like the "Grapes of Wrath or Deliverance".

I have NOT seen anyone w/chickens; I've seen horses and goats lol..but no chickens!!

I got that pDF to open on another computer; it generally states one livestock per acre...thats sucks..I'm off to call city hyall and double check..we are soooo close to rural...

Chickens are often not considered livestock--but rather poultry or smallstock. It is really all in the definitions. The one per acre is likely intended for large animals such as horses or cattle.

I wouldn't call animal control... and if you do, don't tell them exactly where you live...
