I am in LOVE !! PICS ADDED UPDATE FROM VET

of course plans have changed since Victoria and Fredrick went to the vet

so far Fredrick has a clean bill of health and is fine so I do plan on getting him a haired female I am looking to get him a hooded girlfriend

Victoria will remain with me as my very spoiled little friend no plans to breed her since vet said her URI could possible keep returning for the rest of her life and I dont want to pass that on to her babies if it is something that can be passed along

I HAD to take them to the vet I could not just leave her to get sicker and possibly die - that was not going to happen with me around

she came to the pet already hurting with that bad eye and I took her on as my pet along with Fredrick so I made the choice to care for them, my DH was giving me a hard time ( in a fun way ) about taking rats to the vet he has never heard of anyone going that far for a rat LOL

he does like them so he would have done the same thing lol

Victoria is fighting me about taking her meds - she keeps turning her head and using her little paws to push away the syringe - rotten girl I end up by getting it all over her face and feet but when she grooms herself she is getting the meds in her anyway LOL

thanks for the advice and I dont think you are coming off mean/rude I have had rats before so I know what to expect from having them - and believe me they will get the best of care and I dont do the over breeding thing I even talked to vet about getting them fixed when I can afford it.

Good rat mama!

I didn't mean I was surprised that you took them to the vet or anything, just that so many people view them as throw away pets because they're so inexpensive. I've spent A LOT of money on vet care for my ratties and every time somebody makes the comment "They're only a few bucks, why don't you just get a new one?" UGH!

Some tricks I've learned for med giving are mixing the meds up in baby food, jam, mashed banana, mashed avocado, flavored syrup.....pretty much anything besides chocolate or peanut butter! Of course some rats still won't take it haha.

My daughter has 2 hooded males that she had neutered--apparently neutering keeps them from getting many types of tumors and they live longer and healthier lives. They are wonderful pets--wish more folks would realize what intelligent, clean and loving creatures they are!

oh thank you on the the tip of med giving !!

I will see if I have something around here that she likes and mix her meds in - she is so rotten about taking them LOL

I have been spending time holding Fredrick and playing with him but not so much with Victoria until she gets over her cough and URI dont want to make it worse by handling her to much

she is up walking around so muh better on her backleg she is not putting her total weight on it yet but she is moving it and using her toes mostly to walk so hopefully that shot and a few days rest will help there

I have found a very sweet young female that is a black hooded and almost her entire back has a big black stripe down it and she is fairly young so I should be able to get her tamed and easy to work with - I will pick her up in a few weeks I am going to wait until Victoria's URI is gone and make sure Fredrick does not have it also before I bring this new rattie girl home
