All my years hunting and being in the mountains i have never seen one or heard one. They are pretty illusive

Depends where you are. In California, I usually hear them when I go up to the mountains around this time of year.

only time i ever saw one was in southern California at about 6000ft elevation, never have even known anyone thats seen one in idaho

Yeah that's cool i have always wanted to raise California quail whats the regulations on those were could i buy some eggs? Thanks

You may want to check the regulations on that, but I think its the same rule as mountains.....Just have proof of purchase unless you have over 15 breeders, I may be wrong but I think thats it. As far as hatching eggs, try vailsquail.com or griggsgamebirdhaven.com

Here is a site that advertises mountain quail eggs for $6/each and mountain quail chicks for $12/each. I notice they haven't updated their site in a while, but maybe still worth calling them.
