(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I just ordered my first chicks today.... they will ship on 5/27

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I ordered 12 pullets and found out they ship with an additional 10 males for warmth

(3) What breeds do you have?
I ordered the mixed, so I have no idea what I will get. Figured since I couldn't decide on what to gt this would work well

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
From the Ideal Chicken web sight

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Well, I have 2 pygmy goats, 1 nubian, 1 pot bellied pig, 2 doxies, 1 mut, 5 acres and a fishing pole!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I just moved back to Halfway Oregon in Sept 08. I had spent the lase 20+ years in Phoenix AZ and am sooooo gald to be back in the country! I love to have my animals, grow a garden. I want to learn how to can this fall.. I love to fish and camp!

I do have a question...

What shall I do with the 10 males that are included in my order for warmth?? How will I figure out which ones they are?? Any other sugestions for this new chicken lover??

The males for warmth are generally the same breed and you can call Ideal and have then mark the extras at no charge.

As for the getting rid of them
a. take them to a feed store and give them away. Mine has a book of people wanting certian chickens
b. craiglist them
c. raise them and eat them.

As for suggestions.

Handle them when ever you can, and yogurt is ok in the 1st week.

Forgot to mention Welcome to the BYC!!!!!

Welcome!

Packing Peanuts have many uses...they actually grow up to be chickens and poof you have more birds! Then you could eat them, sell them to friends and family...unless they are good then sell them to people that have money. You could start training to be a boxer (think Rocky)... um... I am running out of caffine...be back with more ideas

okay took a hit of caffine

suggestions...you should have ordered more. that will never be enough birds to satisfy the addiction you have started by joining this group of enablers. Go get an incubator...no the bigger one...truat me you will need it...on that thought...save your bacon grease (we will get back to why you need that later as well) You should have built the coop bigger and you need some bantams cuz

bantams rule

standards drool

I am still in school

but I am leaving now and am not really good at ryhming so it is probably a good thing I teach science

You don't necessarily need to keep them away from the hens but you may have to seperate the roos later on if they start fighting. Are all the chicks going to be the same breed?
