I would like to buy 2 silkies but I have no idea where to buy them.. and I also have 2 roosters that fight with each other all the time over hens and one of them (which is my oldest) keeps putting the spurs to my favorite chicken... what do I do???

Thanks for your help(:

Welcome to BYC!!!

How many hens do you have? What are the breeds of the two roosters involved? How old are each of the roosters? What is the environment in which they are kept - are they free range, in a run, etc. If a run - what is the size of the run and coop?

You may want to take a look at the thread for the state in which you live https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you - you can post looking for someone around you who has (or knows someone who has) silkies. However, if they will be housed in the same run/coop as the other chickens I would work to get the current issue between the roosters resolved first.

I have a chicken coop which one rooster and 4 hens stay and a barn for the horses which 2 hens stay and one rooster. One rooster is a barred rock and the other I incubated last year from that rooster and I have no idea which hen. The oldest rooster is about a year or two probably and the other is about 8 months probably.. they are all free range. One rooster will be eating and the oldest will creep up behind him and just full out attack him.. and thanks for the tip about the silkies(: I will try it out!!(:

Welcome to BYC!

Sorry you are having troubles with your flock. Generally you need to keep 1 rooster to 8 to 10 hens. Any less and they can damage or even kill the hens. So I think you need to get rid of this rooster that is aggressive. Get rid of his spurs too. He can cause infections with the puncture wounds on the hens. Don't let him hurt your hens or any other birds. 2 roosters are never going to get along.

Thanks. My step dad said the same thing.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2, you need to separate or cull one of the roos, especially if he is aggressive... temperament is inherited so be prepared for your younger roo to also be a problem when he is older.
Since you can hatch eggs, if you are willing to try shipped eggs, you might also want to check out the BST forum, there are usually plenty of silkie hatching eggs for sale.
