I am new to an incubator can anyone help?

Lisa, good luck with your hatch. I'm using an LG, too and have had very little problems so far. I'm on Day 6. I have both side channels filled and my humidity is staying between 32 - 35%. My temp is holding pretty well, too. Right now it's 99.3. This is my first hatch, too, so let's hang in there together!!

Ok my temp is good and my humidity has dipped to like 26%. How long of this is not good?

Thanks

now it is at 27%

Try putting a sponge in your bator. I am using two sponges in mine, one on each side. It seems to work better that way at holding the humidity. I just pour more warm water on the sponges as needed. My house is really dry so this method was better for me than the channels. I am in lockdown now and added another sponge so my humidity is holding around 70 percent. I hope this helps. Good luck. I am so hoping my 4 silkie eggs hatch!!!

I have the egg turner in there so I don't have room to add the sponge right now. I know I was going to add the sponges at the end once I take out the egg turner and go to lockdown. If I get desperate I will put one in there.

Thanks and I hope your little Silkies hatch for you. They are precious little chickeys. Hope you get some splash cause they are my favorite. Good Luck. I wish I was close tor being over. lol

I put mine under the egg turner. There is room on the sides under the turner on the bottom of the bator. The turner should just clear the sponges. I had no problem with the turner working as it should on top. I just used the cheap sponges. The waiting right now is the worst part. I wonder is hens go through the same thing?! I would love some splash as well but I really dont know what colors I will end up with. As long as they are healthy, thats all that really matters.

I will keep the sponge in mind. I think that the hens know exactly what they are doing so they don't get as stressed as us humans. lol.. I agree that as long as they are healthy that is what matters, but to wish for a splash is ok. lol

I have trimmed a sponge and have it right under the larger vent hole. It fits in that middle space of the turner. I can use a pet feeding syringe and a straw and just dribble some water on it if needed to boost humidity. I haven't had to use it yet. Both of my side channels filled are holding mine 30-35%.

Hey Lisa

Here is a link to a post of when I first started with the LG. I hope it helps!!!

My hatch rates got a whole lot better after following the advice. I had no issues with keeping the temp stable but did have problems with the humidity. Seemed to work better once we got the humidifier in the room!!

thank you Lisa

I have the incubator runnng in the room now. the humidity is at 34% and temp is a fraction over 99.5. Should I decrease the temp a touch or is it ok.

Lisa
