Never had a problem with feeding COOKED potato skins for them, they were fine. Its the green ones you do not want to feed them at all. After all, you have to keep feeding potatoes to them all the time to get the "do not feed" toxicity of potatoes. After all it would be so diluted with other things go with their menu.

Oatmeal is a fav for them. Cornbread or banana breads. Cheerios, canned veggies (wash them out first) and rice. I've done this before a few times and they were fine.

Just boil the potatoes. My grandma kept 50-100 hens at a time in Ireland and half the time boiled peelings were half their diet.

Do you have any rolled oats? I make warm oatmeal from plain rolled oats for mine each morning that it is really cold.

Iggimom - yeppers, so long as the spud skins are cooked, they're okay. My chooks turn their beaks up at them, regardless, though.

Hope you can get to the feed store soon! You must be really worried about your girls, but I'm sure they'll be fine for a few days!!

ok just use ceral, bread, shaved carrots, Question How many chickens are e talking about? Do you have any other animals like goats,horses, cattle, can scrap buy using their food. You might want to start raising some meal-worms. It's really easy and great for food and or treats.

I have been messing with chickens for 20 years or more and I feed them potato skins, green beans and all kinds of scraps from the table. I have never had one die or get sick form anything that I would eat. Chickens will eat anything.

One of the elders of our church said that her mom had fed their chickens boiled cornmeal and cayenne pepper u might wanna try that along with the peaches and rice.

i cook beans, mixed or black,whatevers on sale on the wood stove then freeze in baggies and mix with my corn bread, i throw scraps and crushed egg shells in too....u can just throw the beans in your rice for xtra protein, i also shop for the cheapest can beans incase i run out. i use alot of beans because i cook f my dogs also, good and cheap sorce of protein ....hope this helps ,i kno how it is to b snowed in...like i am rt now....
