I got 4 Bubby chicks now! Two have peacombs, two have straight combs all of them are similar in coloring and clean legged. I'm still thinking Mr. Roo Roo the Golden lakenvelder must be the baby daddy since I haven't seen one feathered leg out of the bunch.
I GIVE UP !!! I had 16 eggs to start with.. 12 developing nicely... wound up with only 3!
This is the first time I had the Temp and humidity down pat and the automatic turner was very handy! The air cells were a little irregular, but only 3 made it and one has like a water pocket on its neck. Unsure if it will make it. I candled last on day 18 when I took them out of the turner and 9 were big and moving well. 3 quit at this point. After 24 hours of the 3 hatching, I took them out and quickly candled to see that all were gone. I cracked open the eggs and 2 were through the membrane and never pipped. 4 were not as far along as the others. Thats it with shipped eggs!! I just placed an order with Ideal and thats IT !! Hope everyone else is having better luck!!
I have 44 duck eggs I hope to set tomorrow,if my Hovabator is stable. Today neighbor dogs killed all but one Rouen hen,so I am hoping some of their ducklings hatch.
Setting 48 quail eggs at school and another ?? at the house and about 1/2 dozen bantam type eggs...had 9 babies this morning! 6 from the January swap...2 naked necks
I kept waking up this morning for no apparent reason. I'd go back to sleep. Sometime around 5:45 I'm laying in bed half awake, petting one of the cats as I'm trying to decide wether to get up or stay in bed. Suddenly.... CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP! I was up in a flash of lightning! There was one chick hopping around and one egg pipped. YAY! The others have no signs of movement or pipping. I hope they're all ok.
Oh, and the one I've got hatched has feathered feet. YAY! A feather footed Wheaten Marans!
