I AM SHOCKED!

I figured it out because I went online and searched how do you tell a ducklings gender and it said that mostly it is the females who peep the most at a young age, and I realized that Poseidon and the other two females peep all day rather than my male, Buddy. Another way I found out was I had a friend come over and vent sex them..... It was sad to watch... But at least I got the information! XD I was sad because they were peeping a lot. I searched it before and gave the instructions to my friend. The good news is no ducklings or humans were harmed during the process!

Male ducklings that age can peep a lot, too, especially when they love their mommy (or daddy) and miss her (him) when she's (he's) gone.

Yesterday, Me and allaboutfatter found out that my Mallard duckling named Buddy is also a girl.... and my duckling named Lou is also a boy... it was very odd... I found out when i put Lou in my duckling pool and she decided to use the restroom and... you know what happened after that im assuming.. but i had to have a friend re -vent sex them and Buddy turned out to be a female... I was sad to find out i named her Buddy... and Lou. I made a little edit to Lou's name and changed his name to Louis.. and Buddy's name to Bella since everyone in my A.W.A group was dieing to change it.. and to Miss Lydia i tried to tell them that it might be best if we dont confuse them, but everyone was throwing fits!

How old are your ducklings? I think vent seximg only works on day olds. And most ducklings peep alot reguardless of sex. I have 4 roughly 7 week old ducks and just recently figured out what sex they were only because 3 quack and 1 doesnt so 3 girls and possibly one boy unless it starts to quack also. I think most people go by girls quack , boys dont, and boys develope a drake feather a few months down the road.

When I first vent sexed them they were 1 week old.. I later then figured out that the results were incorrect. I got the idea on voice sexing them from a BYC member.. And like you said.. Ducklings peep regardless of their gender and that is true.. But I'm still confused on my duckling buddy.. He/she is the biggest of them all and is quiet and independent most of the time and I don't know its exact gender..

Yes to this. Your BEST bet is to wait a while before getting excited about a certain gender. ANY duckling can peep and vent sexing can be tricky; even for the expert. We hatched out Welsh Harlequin ducks and they are the only ducks you can sex at hatch by the color of their bill. That changes after a while so you have to catch it. Even though I saw them hatch and was convinced they were both girls, (it was obvious by their color according to the colors) I kinda had my doubts about one of them because she still has her baby voice; the other quacks quite loudly. I am fairly confident I still have two females (I do not vent sex) but the lesson here is not to get too excited until they age a bit and you can tell by voice.

I guess so and thanks for the info! I did think about it and yes im just gonna stick with my idea on Buddy being a boy...
