I am sick and tired or picking the poop of the chicks butt. How do I

OK, I have found that the chicks that went right out into the tractor on the ground did not get pasty butt. That is a problem that only ocurrs when we keep them in the brooder in cold weather.

Put a little dirt into the brooder. Let them scratch around in it. It seems like there is some mineral or microrganizm in the soil that they need.

You never see chicks hatched by hens that have pasty butt.

Try it, it may work for you.

With just chick crumbles, ours got pasty butt. I added some dry quick oatmeal (just the plain quick oats, Quaker or store brand) to their crumbles, which they loved, and the pasty butt went away. When they did have the pasty butt, I washed it gently off under warm running water. The chicks didn't like it, but only their rears got wet, and they quickly dried.

With my second and third batches of chicks, I added the oatmeal from the beginning, and never got any pasty butt problems.

I never have pasty butt issues with any I hatch here. I never use sugar in their water, just a teaspoon of unfiltered apple cider vinegar(the kind with "the mother" in it) in a quart waterer for a couple of days after hatch, then fresh water afterward.
