Ditto, and in most states you would be within your rights. But:

Let's put credit where it's due... with very few exceptions, this is only the case when their owners are failing to work with them. These people have gotten lax, but don't know their dog is a problem yet - it's fair to give them a chance. Goat_Walker, you're at the point where you shouldn't have to wait anymore to speak with these people. If it were me, I would leave a very blunt note on their door. Be as specific with the damage done as you have been here. If that doesn't change anything, either call Animal Control or SSS (shoot shovel shut up). The problem isn't going to just end - your house is now officially the buffet.

edited for typos... sigh

Problem is, so very few do anything about the dogs...there are exceptions, but unfortunately they are not the rule. 10 years working out in the field in all sorts of neighborhoods taught me that.

OK, Well dad talked to them last night and here is what I leanred.

1. The neighbors were extremely apologetic. She was really upset when she found our of our dead ducklings in her yard.
2. They are chaining up their yellow lab from now on. and if we ever see her in our yard to feel free to shoot her or call the HA.
3. They are searching for a new home for her. There are alot of duck hunters around the other side of the highway so im hoping they find a home for her soon.

SO ... I guess that for the most part this is partially settled. They bought a new indoor dog, a small lap dog, so loosing one of their outdoor dogs isnt that big of a problem. She is keeping her choco lab but that dog never comes out of the yard. The people across the street have dogs that come over and fight with her labs all the time.

Ohhh I'm glad your neighbour's turned out to be nice people. It'd be nicer if they'd been responsible in the first place but they are doing an amazing thing getting rid of the dog. I hope this draws a huge big line under all the rotten stuff that has happened to you and that everything from this side on is much, much better.

I found a bunch of dog prints in the mud around my pen when i got home, so im not very happy about that, but they are doing their best.

The only thing i have to be worried about now is the neighbors across the street. They have three dogs that come and fight with my nice neighbors dogs. They arent very good people, teh ones across the strret. They had the SWEETEST chocolate lab male . I mean he was HUGE and extremely muscled. He was wondering the cow pastures about 5 miles away and animal control came and picked him up. They left him there and he was put down. SWEETEST dog ever. and very well trained too.
