I am so pissed! sorry about the language!

So sorry this has happened to you. It also happened to someone a town over from you, too....

In December there was a guy in Tempe that put up "Abducted Chicken" posters all over (with pics) after a thief was caught chicken-handed after he broke into the backyard coop and stole 2 chickens...the thief dropped 1 of the chickens while running as he was chased by neighbor. The story ran in the Phoenix NewTimes, "Chicken stolen from Tempe Coop" if you want to google it.

Seems like since your thief could only carry 1 at a time for whatever reason, they were careful to re-latch the door to protect the other ones they intended to come back for. Just incredible.

It gets so hot here in the summer, and stays so hot overnight, that open-air coops are pretty much needed (unless an enclosed hen-house has some form of cooling), which makes it even harder to keep out human thieves. There's been so many theft stories lately that I just don't know what to think.

Now a pair of bolt cutters would do all my locks in, but the gate around the back yard is locked, so are both coop doors and the egg doors have hidden sliding latches now...

Smart Predator or Human - Keep Out!!!

Great idea, as they do do that sometimes.

Someone came in and messed with my rabbits and both times they re-latched the barn door after themselves, also. I hope the padlock works for you...and the motion light is a good idea since at least your thief won't have the cover of darkness for protection.

"Desperate hungry people" my backside!!!!! There are any number of churches giving out food on a regular basis everywhere. Here in Oklahoma City, there are places a person can eat at least once if not more, times a day, not to mention being given boxes of food and clothing. Of course, the illegals swarm all over the clothes, taking the best of everything to sell at their yard sales, but you can still get food anytime.

I am afraid Mesa is not the peaceful little town it used to be. Lots of different types of people from lots of different places have moved there. It seems as if some people will do things when away from their home territory that they would never think of doing back home.

I have a hard time convincing family that they need to be vigilant and very careful with locks and windows. They do not realize things have changed.

no nothing. I haven't had anything happen since i put the motion light up and the padlock on the door. I hope that person gets brave so i can catch him/her..

I agree with you rufus! mesa isn't like it use to be but I have never had a problem since I lived here starting 4 yrs again.
