I am so pissed! sorry about the language!

I have a friend who is getting started w/ rare breeds. EVERY time she leaves for any lenght of time she comes home to all the doors open, chickens and eggs missing, her most expensive poultry running around free.. She has a game camera.. I don't understand people.. I would be pressing charges..

So sorry you had this happen. I can not understand people my grandpa used to say if they stole it they must of needed worse then me then he would pray for that person. I understand his thoughts but it sure does not seem fair that people can take whatever they want and not work for it. I think his thoughts came from the depression area.

Dear Heather:
We are all a community here and I think I speak for all of us when I say we are disturbed by your situation to say the least. It's good that you have posted this so we can all learn from your situation and perhaps stop it from happening again to some one else. Not much any of us can do about it but offer emotional support and security suggestions. We cannot turn back time. I will offer you something else. I don't know if you want it but I will offer anyway: I offer you some free eggs for your incubator from my girls. You would need to pay the shipping and the paypal "juice". I charge 15.50 for shipping and the paypal "juice would be .50. Your cost would be 16.00. You can look up my auctions by hitting my name to the left here and you can see what I sell. I can't do it for free-free, but that's all I can offer. I don't have those fancy silkies or anthing like that, and I am not sure if you like my breed and variety of chickens, but they are yours if you like. This part of the forum is not for sales, and this is NOT a sale, just and offer of free eggs for the shipping. If you want to take me up on this offer, I have upcomming paying customers who's orders would take priority over you, after those orders are filled, you can have some. PM me if you like.

In the first post the OP said that she locked them in the coop came out in the morning to let them out and they where gone. Coop door still shut with the latch.

You need a German Shepherd!

I'm so sorry for your loss of your girls. There is nothing that makes you as helplessly furious as being stolen from.

I must have missed it, but I didn't see that the latch was shut in the morning.

From the picture of the coop, the latch shown - I've seen squirrels be able to flip that open. It wouldn't stop a raccoon at all. Also having them on the kitchen cabinets at home (keeps the cats out), if they slam shut, they can relatch on their own to some degree. I don't trust those as far as I can throw them to protect the chickens.

Since there isn't a secure lock on the door, I lean towards a four legged predator vs two legged.

Denise, there is a way around the PayPal "juice". People can send a "gift" for no charge. To the OP hope the game cam comes in handy catching whomever is taking your birds.
