If they were free range, wouldn't a fox or a hawk be able to pick them off? Supposedly foxes tend to carry poultry a mile or two before eating them.

Is your property fenced? From the picture it looks like it's sitting close to a road, or is that a road on your own property?

I have 20 acres and the my property is fenced with a big cattle gate that is locked all the time except when we open it to leave. the road by my house is about 30 yards from my house. My coop is maybe 40 steps from my house. I don't know how much closer i need to get it. The game is going to be installed this weekend. I even had to bring all my baby chicks at night just to make sure nobody tries to take them.

I am just so mad. I know have to buy eggs for my incubator and have to find good laying hens to replace mine.

Thanks for all your suppport! I needed it before i just broke down and pulled every single hair out.

Well, i am just so sorry for your loss. i would be beside myself if someone came and took any of my chickens. i think a game cam will help you get some answers. i have game cam in one of my coops and also a baby monitor. Good luck in finding the culprit.

You know coyotes are a growing problem---even in central Phoenix. I am up by PV mall, and I chased a coyote off my neighbor's shed. It was 9am in the morning, my kids were in the yard, and the darn thing easily hopped a 6 foot block wall. It's not like we are in the boonies---I live at Cactus and the 51---in the middle of the dern city.

Definately set up the cam.... here in MI I'm pretty sure it is still a felony to steal livestock, including chickens (i'm sure this was from back when everyone was homesteading)! I would look up the laws on it incase you happen to see someone on the footage. If you don't and it is an animal at least you could form a plan to stop it then. Good Luck!

Sorry about your loss, I know exactly how you feel. There is nothing that bothers me more than having something stolen. I really think we should have much harsher penalties in place for those who have the idea "if I can take it then it's mine" There is no excuse for stealing someone’s chickens or any pet for then matter! BTW: please keep your eyes on your local Craig’s List for the next couple of weeks, I'll bet they are going to sell them for the money.
