We had a large return to them, which we paid cash for. They told us they could not give us cash back, and we had to take it in the form of a check. Ok, so give us the check... NoooooOOOoooo, it had to come from the main what ever. It'll only take three days though, we promise. Yeah right! 3 months later we had our money back
I was on the phone with them daily looking for the money, and that didn't help any... Then again, maybe it did!!
I try to deal with anybody other than HD anymore... Sorry they
Home Depot runs that No Interest, No Payments for 1 year deal all the time when you spend over $299. Didn't you get that deal for the 1st purchase?
Wish you lived closer to me, I just had a whole pile of shingles left over I could have given you.
Can you go to Lowes and open a card with them? They should give you a few hundred $ credit limit AND 10% off your first purchase. At least to get that roof replaced as fast as possible.
If it was my house, I'd take those trees down around the house. Shade and debris from trees can take years off the life of a roof. I had one building with a beautiful maple next to it and we all loved that tree, but the roof was covered in moss and every fall the leaves took days to clean up. We finally had that tree taken down (75' tall) and everybody loves that it's gone! More light, cleaner and now I will have the roof replaced next year without all that moss growing back and rotting out the trim.

This is true! Last year we did just that with regards to our Sears credit account. We had bought a mattress on the 12 month no payments/no interest. When we had the cash we paid it off one full month before the due date. Since we knew we were paying off the mattress we took advantage of a great deal on patio furniture about two weeks before we sent in the mattress payment. When I got my next statement it showed the patio furniture payed off and only 20 dollars applied to the mattress.
They then tacked on over 300.00 for interest fees!!!
. It was perfectly clear the payment was for the mattress because the check was written for that amount exactly AND I wrote it on the payment coupon that I sent in with the check. When I called citicorp--- who does the credit accounts for sears I was told "too bad--- you should have called in and told us how you wanted that payment applied". I flipped out--- they sent me up the line of command yet no one would listen. I got so mad I thought I am not going to let them do this to anyone else even if I don't get my money back. So I called the investigative office of our local news channel and told them--- they ended up doing a five minute piece on us and our experience. I also filed a consumer complaint with my state's attorney office.
When Sears found out about what citicorp had done they were furious. End result not only did I get the 300 dollars back in cash for the finance charges they sent us a 500.00 gift card trying to get us to re-open our credit account with them again.

Well, we sharpened our pencils and redid the budget. I won't be ordering the 20 boxes of ceramic slip that I'd been saving up for months to buy. (It was for my studio.) Instead that money will go to the roof. We're buying the supplies at a local building supply company. We picked up the felt paper today. Unfortunately it is already raining, so we won't be able to put it on until after things dry out. Once that is down, then we'll find some other corners to cut to buy the rolled roofing. If any of the OSB does go bad from the rain, I do have half a dozen sheets left from our chicken coop building projects that I can use on the porch roof if I have to.
Where there is a will, there is a way. It just won't be as easy a way. But, hey, at least we won't be paying interest on it!
I have the opposite experience with Home Depot here, all the employees are cheerful, say hello and "can I help you with something" , prices are WAAAYY better than Lowe's .. no complaints about Home Depot .... now Lowes I couldnt find someone to help me if my life depended on it.... horrible customer service there. I dont know anything about the credit card though.. I only pay cash or don't get it.
Good luck with your roof... I would definitely keep complaining or take it to a tv station like others have suggested.
Did you have your insurance company look at this before you took off the roofing? It should be covered, if your policy has a waiver for you doing the work.
