I am sorely DISPLEASED!!

I took my wife to our local auction last week. She was completely disgusted by it.
She has decided that my chickens have it made.

The white ones with the black spot on the heads actually look like Texas A&Ms to me... hard to tell from the photos.

I'm kind of glad we don't have auctions here... I'm sorry that you had to witness that.

Pretty much ALL auctions are like that, some are even worse. And with those filthy conditions, auctions are a hotbed for disease. I've seen them race to sell an animal before it dies in the cage. Sometimes they are too late and it dies before they can sell it. Think of all the diseases you are bringing home to your healthy animals! Is it worth that just to save a few bucks?? I think not, I can be very expensive to treat sick animals and replace your whole flock (or herd) after they all die from some mystery disease. Common sense, people.

My DH and I drove over an hour a few weeks ago to go to an auction. My experience was pretty much identical to yours. Tons of chickens, ducks, quails, etc., all stuffed into little boxes like the ones produce is shipped in.

They would reach in and pull em out then stuff them back in the opening. No concern for legs, wings, feathers or anything. They would pick up the boxes, I could see feet hanging out the open slats in the bottom and then they would just throw them down or scoot them across the table. Tell me feet and legs where not injured?

After the lot was auctioned they would throw them into a stack about 5 feet high. They were falling over and everything. Needless to say, I was absolutely in shock over the way they were treating these animals. I just cannot think of taking mine there and absolutely would not buy from it.

A shame. Have seen the same things at flea markets. I probably would not go to a flea market or auction that has animals now...I would probably end up body-slamming someone....

I don't think those are all buttons, but I could be mistaken. There are some that look like A&M coturnix.

The way you described your auction is the same way it is at the one near me. I almost never buy or sell in the auction barn, all my dealings are done outside, where the people that take care of their animals are!

Poor babies, but glad they got to go home with someone who will care for them

ETA: Honestly, looking at the pic again, I don't think that any of them are buttons. It looks like A&M coturnix, brown coturnix, and a few goldens. You got played

thats what i figured, Now i just gotta find a home for a couple of em if most of em live. 25 is a bit many for my pen, Could have sworn there was only maybe 10 in the cage at the auction then they start counting em and its just like.. Uh oh.. But i dont think all will make it. the littlest ones are still very weak and clumsy.
Anything I can do for that?

and also i noticed that some of them only hold one eye open and their other eye is completly shut, i havnt seen them open it all day, deformed?? Disease? and some of them their eyes look RED not like the normal kitten pink eye color as babis but BRIGHT RED. is that something I should be worried about?
