). That loves animals too much by my parents. If i see a cat/Dog. chicken. Etc as a stray... i also have to go play with them. eventually bring them home. "nurse" them back to health. and from there i give them to a good home (NO animal Shelters). Or keep them myself... Sadly its mostly myself

i get attached to them too easily.

Daniel, you have a heart of gold. I do the same, and find homes for the lost critters that come my way. It is easy to get attached, but it lifts my heart more when I find great homes for them.
I am an advocate for trap neuter return for feral cats.
Years ago, I put food out for what I thought was 1 or 2 cats.
To my amazement, it ended up being 17 cats. Many pregnant females. I searched for a solution.
Searching the internet, I found a few vets that would offer spay/neuter at discount.
I contacted a vet on the list and explained my situation.
Her response was to call animal control to have them removed, being it was not right for them to fend for themselves and be on the streets. She said it would be the "humane" thing to do.
I thought about it for a second, and asked if this was the humane way, every wild animal, squirrels, birds, deer, etc, should be caught by animal control because, they fend for themselves.

She could not respond. Anyway, I found a Humane way to solve the crisis, TNR. I provide food and shelter to the misfits of human error. Raised many kittens that I took from the females to adopt in great homes. Was even able to tame quite a few adults. Yes some died after being hit by cars, etc, it is fate. It breaks my heart every time, but I know they had a better life in the care I provide for them.
Daniel, you should be a vet.

Justusnak,
You did what you could, your post shows you really cared about Rocket Dog. It really upsets me every time I hear a story about another pet considered a disposable object.

Justusnak You made a difference in his life and should be commended for that. It is far more than many people would do today. That is a sad part of our society.

Nerfy You hit the nail on the head using the word disposable. From animals to children and beyond they are all disposable to many people.

Although such a sad story, it was beautifully written!

A lot of people don't realize just what an epidemic of abandoned dogs there are in this country due to the housing crisis! I read an article in the paper about so many homes foreclosed on in California that all the shelters became filled to capacity and turned away countless pets. So the owners, feeling beaten down from the banks taking away their homes, decided to simply lock all their pets inside their homes and just leave. They assumed that the banks deserved the damage that their pets would do while slowly starving to death. It was written in this article that dogs tried to eat drywall and carpet from being starved.

So if it had to be a choice of what way you had to die, Rocket dog, I feel at least you had a shot at life rather than dying in a torture prison of silence, thirst and slow starvation that had once been your happy home.

Daniel, you do have a heart of gold as does my son who is 8 years old.

I will tell you the same as I tell him because at times the big heart can hurt you.

Leave the strays and sick alone, please.

A long time ago my buddys Mom found a sick fawn in the pasture.

She tried to nurse it back.

Six months later she died at 41 years old from Lyme disease.

Nature is not kind, cuddly, or friendly.
It has a way of it's own.

My buddy lost his Mom in 9th grade, because she was trying to defy nature and it's cruel course.

Nature is cruel, sickness, starvation, and cars.

What is worse is my friends 37th Birthday was a few weeks ago, all talk went to his Mom, 22 years later, he hates deer and wishes his Dad would have known and shot it.

22 years of questioning where his Mom's soul is, raising her grandchildren without grandma, all over a big heart and prolonging the suffering of an animal.

That is a very sad way to live, with a heart full of hate and anger. There is no way to tell that this particular fawn was the carrier of the tick. It was not the FAWN's fault if it was the carrier, it was the TICK! Why hate the victim and spend an entire life hating a victim.

It would be like stopping to aid someone broke down on the highway at night, only to be hit and killed by another driver who didn't see you. Should your family then hate everyone on the side of the road with a flat tire? It wasn't the person's fault their tire went flat. You would have died doing what anyone with a conscience would have done.

Please try help your friend to see this in a different light so they can lift this lifelong pain and understand that if the fawn even was the tick carrier, that their mom only died doing what made her such a great and nurturing mother in the first place!

Sadly justbeing brought to a shelter won't always help these animals . Most who will not conform will be put down .

Those lucky enough to be adopted ( puppies ) are snatched up quick without the new owner knowing that they have not been vaccinated properly .

I bought an 8 week old puppy from our local animal shelter a month and a half ago...I felt it was the right thing to do rather than buying from breeders . Three days after bringing Jessie home....she was lethargic and still had green goo coming out of her eyes . Over the next month she went to the vet 4 diferent times , the last visit was for 4 days . They called me to say that she needed to be put down for DISTEMPER . After a month of bonding with her , caring , worrying for her...she is dead . All I have are the memories , the bills of over $500 , and the drive to make sure these shelters vaccinate the animals as they should . I went back to that shelter and no dogs were adoptable ( they usually have at least 75 ) . I have to hope that they will better screen and prevent any illnesses .

I believe what Sussex inSeattle was trying to say is that his friend felt that the old saying of "survival of the fittest " applies here .

No , it's not the fawns fault for having ticks , it is however the persons responsibility to know these risks and except that a WILD animal needs to be left alone . Is it sad.....yes . Is it nature....yes . If nothing died then we would all ( human kind AND animal kind ) suffer . If animals didn't die they would slowly run out of food fro over population and starve to death.......the same as humans . The deer can only be deer....with human interference....they won't learn that . A wild animal is a wild animal...let's all keep it that way .
