Rhett&SarahsMom :

I agree. Call Fish and Game. Let the local PD know as well. And alert your neighborhood.

Ok there were so many good posts so I am going to try and hit all the suggestions and then update.
Bear Mace is EXPENSIVE and not ness. effective plus I would probably spray it into the wind blowing at me as I was crying of fright and it would get in my eyes then the bear would have a blind pepper seasoned meal

I did call fish and game and had to get back to them this morning because they called while I was out guarding my birds. It was like 85 today and I kept them inside. My concrete elephant was knocked over today so I think it was back. I talked to the guy this morning who basically told me the following while very understanding. The cops here are trained to shoot it. Once it gets to my birds call them and they will come shoot it. Last time they could not find my house.... So I am on my own till they kill something or break in my home. All traps are out on Cat 1 bears. Hopefully this one is one of them. He said it was of course way overdue for a bear hunt and I should write which I will. Nice guy but nothing he can do till I lose birds.

I did not get much sleep went to bed at 4am (was worried about the snake bite story also)and was up at 7-7:30
I fell back asleep 8-10 and am now exhausted
We have paintball guns and horns... I will be home tomorrow so we will see what happens....... I have to go pick up my daughter..hopefully nothing is out there waiting for me....

Oh yea I wanted to add alerting the neighbors isnt always a good thing, someof them love the bears more than my life or the life of my chickens

Call wildlife and tell them you are going to shoot it if it comes back. Tell them you fear for your family's safety with it only being 3 feet from your door. They will be there quickly to trap and remove it.

Please be very carefull going outside.
I am as frustrated with your Game officers as I imagine you are.
This is insane, You just went through not one but 2 bear attacks, the offcials were too stupid to follow a GPS to your home , the bear is within feet of your door and there is nothing they can do untill the birds are attacked or worse you or your child, That is such BS.
Hate to say it , no wait no I dont , you have the lamest excuses for Game officials I have ever heard of.

When you write in about the Bear Hunt please be sure to include the lame excuses they have given you as a back up as to why a hunt is necessary.
Oh and please post an address so we, Your friends can write in and fight for the hunt too.
Bear hunt is revenue for your state and if they would open it to outside states they might be able to afford wardens with a brain.

Apparently it isnt a GPS it is something that gives off a sound when the other part of it that the person holds is near trying to find it?? I am not sure this is accurate though I have no reason to believe he is lieing. I wish I was sure exactly what it was. I asked him if he could tell where it was. It seems like you can not tell where the bear is unless you are near enough to hear the noise?? Anyone have insight?? The state and the B.E.A.R. people have tied their hands. There isnt much you can do and the cages are all tied up with cat. one bears. Honestly that is where they belong for now but I feel like I am going to be on that list. My daughter did not remember the elephant being knocked over either so it must have been back today. I must look like a loon leaving the house, I have a HUGE flashlight that lights up the woods and a paintball gun...lol look out the crazy lady is leaving her home!

New Jersey Black Bear Overpopulation Requires Urgent Attention
2009 Action

There are several OP-EDS within this website, njbearhunt.com ,that will provide readers with real facts concerning the overpopulated New Jersey Black Bears. Please read so you can become familiar with the truth.

The simple fact however, is that EVERY STATE, with a large enough black bear population to create a human safety issue, holds annual hunting seasons to bring about and maintain a safe coexisting black bear population.

New Jersey is the only state that does not and as a result of cancelled hunts in 2006 and 2007, 2008 saw the largest increase in all categories of black bear complaints.

This issue cannot be allowed to remain a political football any longer because some poor human is inevitably going to be seriously mauled or killed by a black bear if the population is not lowered and bears adversely conditioned to be fearful of humans; both of which will be accomplished through annual hunting seasons.

This year with the Global Financial crisis affecting the entire United States and New Jersey of course, our citizens will be looking for “staycations”, staying at home in our backyards and local recreation areas. There will be cookouts, families and friends getting together, children playing outside, all targets for serious bear conflicts created by the increase in human activity and an “out-of-control” overpopulated black bear that has absolutely no fear of humans.

I would implore you, especially the Bear Group, Humane Society and other anti-hunting groups to stop this charade, you are publishing lies and misleading information and starting your blitz on the politicians to stop a hunt.

Anyone, any of you politicians out there please use a little common sense; with (26) out of (27) states successfully using hunting for decades to maintain a healthy, coexisting black bear population why would you think New Jersey can be different?

Black Bears in New Jersey have three to five cubs each year; they cannot simply be left to multiply any longer. Just where does anyone suppose the black bears are going to live, we are out of room.

For the millions of the non-hunting public that understands the need for hunting in culling and controlling wildlife populations, you must write and voice your opinions because it appears that our politicians do not listen to facts and figures, successful hunting programs of (26) other states they seem to be fixed on counting potential votes. They refrain from dealing with political hot potatoes. Do not let these groups get away with making this a trophy hunt wanted by blood thirsty hunters, this is about human safety and protection.

Somehow in your own words let these people know that HUMAN LIFE is INVALUABLE and that common sense dictates black bears can never just be left to multiply, they are already overpopulated. None of us wants to read the news when a black bear seriously mauls or kills a human and certainly those of us living the nightmare in bear country fear the day it is one of our family or friends.

For all the love we have for animals none should compare to that of human life nor the agony of watching a human being suffer and die.

This is one reason i love Washington! If it moves, we kill it! But...we dont just kill it, we eat it too!

Last winter we had a cougar around our property and by my birds. We couldnt go outside after dark, even to the car, because you could always hear it within range. The first time we called the Fish and Game they said "oh, we know about it. Let us know when it comes back." WHEN???? WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHEN??? Yeah, I know.... So then we get a snow storm and my kids went out to play and there on my back deck are huge paw prints! That was it for me! We called again and they said nothing. I told them i was going to shoot it and to **** off. I have 6 small kids, i didnt care!

He came back...he is in the frezzer!
No fine, no tag, no bull*hit. And I am the nice one...too bad i didnt let DH take care of it.

I agree! Shoot the bear, take it to a butcher, have sausage made and enjoy!
