I am used to some of the rules of the fish and game there. Didn't like them when I lived there and still don't.

I agree wholeheartedly, the laws in NJ are insane, by the sounds a lot of the people also.

I just hate to see someone get in trouble with kids to take care of.
I am all for getting rid of a nuisance bear.

First, why does it make a difference if the bear eats garbage, that is all they eat around here! The day care center down the street does NOT lock their dumpster and it is in there all the time. They get the cops called on them all the time, where is the fine?? I do not think they have been fined. They come and blow a horn at it...My Mom has said well at least it isnt eating your chickens...I reminded her it would make them healthy to have more babies and eventually they would get my birds. I guess that bear would taste like dirty diaper but the rest of the garbage? Does it really make that much of a difference?? I would love to try bear some time.

Yesterday we had a hawk issue but I do not think it got anyone. They are REALLY good at hiding. I opened the door to go out and there was not ONE chicken in sight. I have like 8 full grown and 20 babies running around. It took a while to find them, I did not want to go running into any coop with a bear in it, but the older ones were in the coop and the babies with my favorite Roo were under a huge bleeding heart I have. It was so strange to come outside and not see one single bird!

We have not had ANY bear sightings where they were hanging out. I do not know enough about their behavior to know why they would stay. They can not get into our garbage, there was no evident food source there at the moment. Thank God they havent been back but I watch. It is VERY strange. I can only hope someone else took care of the problem.

I do not plan on ticking off a bear that is for sure. We make all the noise we can to scare it away, of course that doesnt work well.

I believe the hole in the glass happened overnight. I would have seen the hole while closing up which is after dark. It is still a mystery.

Hmmm, my bet would be that an annoymious call to the dept. of child services, out of concern for the children with the bear in the trash would get them to lock up the dumpster. The inspector should be down there that day for a complaint like that. It may be mean, but by letting the bear associate that trash and that location with food, they really ARE endangering the kids.

Yeah, there simply is no excuse for endangering the kids thru laziness. Make sure they know that the local poliece have been called because it's happened repeatedly.

Someone told me once that they let the kids watch the bear...but I have no proof of that. My nephew used to work at a paintball place around here and he said when all the "city" folk came they whipped out the cell phone cameras to take photos of the bear instead of running like the refs were telling them lol You have to get pretty close to take a photo of a bear on a cell!!
