I will try and post photo of daycare tomorrow, the dumpster is far away from the building but it doesnt take long for a bear to charge.

Actually:
Bears attracted to the dumpster due to inappropriate handling of waste is the concern of DCYS.
It is creating a Health issue and a Danger issue to the children involved.
Also the Day Care is licensed and governed by rules and regulations through the Child Services.
This definitely falls under the category of putting children in danger of sickness and bodily harm.

Warrior, you be carefull we are coming out of winter right now and they are mean and hungry (garbage or not) at this time of year. If there is young cubs look out you never know where they will be and if you get inbetween you are a goner.
I reallly think that you need to start squeaking the wheel there call everyone you can find on your county board, all city officals. Tell them you are taking names and making notes, if you can tape record it and let them know it is being recorded. Start there, don't let anyone pass the buck. They are working for you and you want them squeaking as well. If ya can't get anything done thru local and state governement then go to federal and see if you can get them to start pushing. Remind everyone you vote. If you have to write the president and ask him to help with this as your officals are all brain dead. Use the media, get the word out about what you are doing and ask the public to join you in contacting these people.
Try to enlist everyone you know and don't know into helping. Write up a list of all the officals with their contact info, include, local, state, and federal people on this list. Have a brief and to the point pharagraph on what has been going on in the state and that even if you don't hunt yourself the need to cut the number of these bears down to a managable safe number is there. Ask them to contact your reps as well.

I understand that you deal with this daily. I understand that you are there in the thick of it and I really respect law enforcement. I understand that for the most part your hands are tied by the law. I also understand that as of YET, and I stress YET,no one has been hurt. No disrespect meant here, but do you really beleive that these children are not in danger? This is not some person who can reason, hey as long as no children are here I can eat in the trash. These are wild, dangerous animals that can kill a grown MAN with one swipe of it's paw, never mind what could happen to a child, and you are really telling me that a bear, one that may have cubs, eating in a trash can next to a day care is not a threat to the children there. Would you want your child in that day care?
Maybe as a law enforcement officer you could PM Warrior and help her figure out all the people she could start contacting who may just do something about these bears. That might be a start for her, I am sure she would be happy to have some info on who to contact.
I also think that even if the people to contact about this day care are DNR and Waste management that it couldn't hurt to turn them into Child Welfare and the people who gave this daycare a permit to watch children. I would also call the media and have them out taping this daycares trash and the bears in it.
BEARS can NOT Tell TIME. They could very well come at a time that these children are out side playing and the running and yelling could trigger their pray drive. A mother with yearling cubs could see it as a perfect place to teach their cubs how to hunt.
This state and it's bear problem is a death by bear waiting to happen and if it doesn't happen this year then I will be surprised.
When this happens NOT IF but WHEN, then everyone who is in that state and did nothing is responsible for the injury or death of the peson/people it will happen too. Lets hope it isn't one of your family members hurt or killed.

Praying in MI for your state and all the people in it that nobody is hurt or killed before some of those dead trouts in power remember that people are more inportant than a bunch of animals.

I had an early day today and on passing someone was out messing in the dumpster with what looked like a shovel/rake, I just saw a long handle. It could never be far enough, and it could be there during the day. I had an early day today and on passing someone was out messing in the dumpster with what looked like a shovel/rake, I just saw a long handle.
