I am pretty much the opposite
I can read and write quite well
I get the grammar
but I am absolutely hopeless when it comes to speaking
if I ever go to Germany, I will have to pose as a mute

Well....at least you will be able to visualize what people are saying to you, if you have the reading and writing down pat.

Watching someone else pronounce known words would be helpful, whether that's documentaries, talking face-to-face, etc. Sounds like you need to find yourself a German friend to talk with you and laugh at all your mistakes. And help you learn the right way to do it, of course.

Being bilingual is good for you anyway...so I really encourage this venture of yours.

Omran.

I mentioned it in my post (page three?) My German (not OF German heritage, but immigrant) mother says it teaches wrong... even for high German... but she is extremely critical of everything. I was told I was bilingual until three years old so I'm not sure if Rosetta Stone teaches well or I already knew it. I have only the first lesson in German (around $300 for one disc) and felt I didn't learn anything that could be used on a daily basis. You get alot of "is the boy under the table?" WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO USE THAT?! "The bird is black." WOW. lol

Still, that said, I would say it works better than any book. (German for Dummies anyone?) And it is fun to a extent... it's colorful and there are multiple ways to study.
