I am using the light method and getting less eggs?Add radio=more eggs!

I took the chickens a treat this morning. They got 2 cups of warm oatmeal and milk. I cooked it in the microwave. It is an easy fix thing to give them. I also gave them a little bit of salad in a suet feeder. They mainly liked the oatmeal. I lrft the run, went into the coop to get eggs, and when I came out, the oatmeal was already gone.

chickenman;
I read to be cautious with cat food. It has minerals that in too large an amount could have a negative impact on poultry.

I was getting 0-3 eggs from around 100 hens since the end of September.

Put on the light three weeks ago and today's count was 30. I expect to be up to at least 75% in another 10 days.

I have also added some higher protein food in the pens with no production.

Don't worry. I read about the cat food on the treats chart and now I am going to buy a larger protein count feed.

I added a radio last night and it increased my egg count today by -----2!!!!!! One is very fat and the other egg is very tall!

Hmmm...a radio you say? Well, my boyfriend plays very loud guitar in the house across the small yard most afternoons. Ya think that counts?

I don't know. I have it playing on a slow soft station just a little louder that what it would sound like if it you could barely hear it. They dont seem scared of it. Maybe the radio will scare away the neighboor kid who keeps stealing eggs.

I just read your other thread, and commented on maybe the neighbor boy is taking your eggs.

I've read that music improves egg production. Why not, music is therapeutic in so many ways for many species. I should put a radio in my coop.

But I doubt that a radio will scare the kid away. He'll just watch and come over when he knows you aren't out there. He'll hear music and realize the hens have a radio.

Big padlock! Maybe even threat of calling the police if he keeps trespassing. Can you get hold of a security video cam, set it up where he won't see it? Then you'll have evidence, if you do have to call the cops.

I hate thieves. We had some of that around here a few years back, lost a lot of tools out of our barn before we discovered we were being robbed.
