I am WOMAN..... as I beat my chest show you pictures of my coop!!

That coop is absolutely gorgeous! Well done! BUT.....rather than sand inside, I would recommend shavings. Half a bale of aspen shavings would cover the floor a few inches deep, and they would be light and easy to clean up. They dry out fast, and after use, make great garden mulch. All that nice manure mixed in does wonders for the plants!

Love your coop project. Thank you for documenting your work for us to enjoy! You are an inspiration to women everywhere. Men too if they are smart enough to take ideas from a women.
I love the fact that you designed it on the fly, it looks like it was professionally done.
The little window box is a very nice touch.

I am so beyond impressed with your coop adventure!!!! The coop is not only functional but absolutely spectacular and I love the flower box - and it blends into your yard so well. Congratulations on a job extremely well done! And thanks for motivating all of us here.

I would definitely screen in the bit below the nest boxes for more ventillation - you can always cover it in the winter if needed. Sand vs shavings - good question. I have shavings in my coop and with 3 minutes quick scooping a day, they stay fairly clean (12 hens). They are also easy to clean out completely when needed. I have considered sand in the coop but haven't seen the need so far and I have easy access to sawdust (we use it in the horse stalls too). But I am in the process of renovating the run and will definitely put sand there - after the hens removed all of the greens, we began to have a mud problem this past winter.

This is so cute and well thought out. Plus, it's so nice and clean with no chickens in it. Maybe you should just keep it this way, you know, without the mess. Ha ha. The chickens are going to love it.

I love it.

The large window is very unique, and you will enjoy your view with the chickens from inside the house.
Of course women can build !
I do a lot of building my self, although I am not very good with exact measurements, and perfect cuts (only because I never bothered to try since I have my husband for that), I built my own coop (except the doors), I also made the outside egg box out of an old coat hanger from Habitat, and built the run by my self (cut trees, put the posts in concrete, built the frame….etc). My husband helped me stretch the net. I improvise and recycle all the time. Necessity can make one very handy.
You are an inspiration for us all.

Thanks Dear!! Shavings or Sand.... Savings or Sand~ Decisions Decisions!! I'm still torn~ but I am definately thinking about shavings having seen your garden and how easy it is to mulch it with the shavings and it would be great for the garden. But then I think sand would make for easy cleanup and lest costly in the long run

Hahaha I'll figure it out eventually!

Ohhh and my dad would always laugh at me and my idea of measurements!!! I'm not very good with them either but I'm getting better. As long as I have that tape measure I'm good! That's awesome you do so much hands on yourself!!!! I think it's good for our spirit and I LOVE to recycle random stuff~ it makes it so much fun!
