The window I just bought a plexi glass cutout from Lowes and framed it into place with some leftover wood cuts!

You can get the same chicken bell here off ebay!

The screen door was actually a (kickplate) for a door~ It has those metal strips built onto it. I purchased it at Lowes! It was the perfect size and makes it super secure

Hope that helps~ Have FUN! I'm sure it will be cute to

You Done a great job, and please don't think that boys build better coops than Girls, heck I am an old boy and don't know how to drive a nail straight

Tiffany - Your coop is absolutely AWESOME! You should be SO proud of yourself. I have never seen a cuter coop in my life. I especially love the big windows! You GO girl!!

I hope you won't mind if I offer one suggestion, something I learned from personal experience regarding roosts. I also used the natural branches and they DO love them, but mine were very small, like yours. My chickens didn't want to roost at night and I couldn't figure it out until someone suggested they might not like the perches. I found much larger around branches and also added a few 2x4s on end as alternate roosts. They like a perch that is very solid and that they can lay their chests on, so it needs to be wide enough that their toes don't go all the way around it. You don't have to worry about extreme cold like we do here in Michigan, but during the winter they like to lay on their feet to keep them warm. It's easier if the perch is wider. Maybe your girls are completely happy with their roost, but if not you might try larger branches or 2x4s. I even have 2x4s laid flat that they love too.

I think you could make some money at this if you have the time!

I think the roo's are hilarious to watch~ I hope yours doesn't get you any complaints either!

I just read through the whole thread and you did a fabulous design job on your coop. With regard to your ROO. Be proactive... You might chat up your neighbors and see if they mind. I know lots of people who love the sound of a Roo. Of course after they get past the Cazooo sounding stage.... LOL.
gig.gif
Just let them know if they don't care for the noise you will re-home him. If you have them in the coop at night his night time Doodle Doos will be muffled by the coop. Mine used to Doodle doo at about midnight and then again just before sunrise. Sort of an "All is Well" call. I had three Roos but only one of them did the night time crowing.

Yesterday I kept hearing this squeaky noise from my neighbor's coop. Finally figured out that his baby roo is learning to crow, but can't get out a big one. My big roo just says "Hmph!" And lets them have a good one back, full blast!

It won't be long before they will be having a contest to see who can be the loudest. Tiffany, it's good that your little roo can't hear any others, or it would just make him crow more. I think you will be OK with keeping him. Most people are nice and fairly tolerant of their neighbor's antics (unless you have a really crabby one). Look how I put up with the eight yappy dogs belonging to another neighbor, and I haven't strangled a one of them (yet). And I'm crabby!

Glad to see your chicks are sleeping in their coop. It won't be long before they'll be putting themselves to bed.

You know I was actually thinking about that! I was wondering if the branches themselves were to narrow~ I know some get up on the roost at night but not all. I have (bigger) branches though!!! So maybe this weekend I can swap them out and see if that makes it better for them and I have lots of 2x2s left as well. It's really funny to watch them looking out the window!! I love advice though~ as I am still learning! Thanks chickmate

Well technically ~ I probably shouldnt have any chickens at all! I'm a law breaker

It all depends on how you interpret the neighborhood "by laws" Haha I read through it and it didn't say no chickens! But there was wording that implied you may only have what would be considered "normal household pets" and only a reasonable number of pets allowed! Lots of words that could be depicted in many ways. But I certainly don't want to disturb my neighbors. Actually most of them are really cool~ but the lady that lives next door on the other side is strange, she barely ever talks or says hi, she just comes home pulls in the garage and doesn't say anything at all. She is the questionable one?? But I do not believe she opens her windows in the fall because of her allergies, I actually got her to speak to me last year and she was telling me about her allergies and that she never goes outside to do any kind of yardwork because they are so bad. So if I'm lucky she'll never notice! Haha I will bribe all the rest with fresh eggs

The doodle doo's are definately muffled by the coop! I heard him *try* bless his heart to crow a couple of times in the coop sunday morning at 6am. I was in my daughters room which is right next to the coop and I was painting her walls and he could see me through her window and I was wondering if he was trying to get me to let him out!!!

To funny~ I do love that rooster!
