What a great job!!! This is much more well thought out than my coop. I like that you did the framing first and the way you did the roof. It's nice that some of the other gals here get to see this so they feel more confident to make their own instead of buying somebody's else's prefabricated thing. Maybe you can publish this and your finished coop on your My Page. Awesome girl. It's amazing what you can do with just a few simple tools.

Yes that's my first build! Thanks

and yes I thought about building it bigger~ but honestly If I build it small I'm hoping that fact alone will help me refrain from purchasing any more chicks! See I'm in an urban neighborhood. I don't have lots of room but addequate enough for a handful of chickens! They are completely addicting~ and looking at all the cute new babies on here isn't helping! But if anything changes I suppose I could build something else! something bigger, and taller, maybe with a chicken slide!

Now that's funny. You and I think alot alike. I did the exact thing, thinking if I built small I would only want a few. Well let me tell you, it didn't work. I am having a great time with raising my gals that I want more. I want an array of colored eggs and an array of breeds. It was so hard deciding what I wanted when I started. I think I must of changed my mind a dozen times. I've decided to TRY to hold out till next spring and build another coop and add to my girls. Hope you can handle having a few.

GREAT JOB on your coop!!!

Sigh, no Lowes here....

I should have a Ryboi frequent buyers card.

Me Too!!! I know how you feel. I had a total mess in my back yard of lumber and other great stuff like wire, gutters, and other stuff too cool to just throw away, but I had to either use it or move. I have poured over the pics on this site, and drooled over the coops others have built. Between work and the weather I haven't had much time, but my "chicks" that have been living in the kitchen will be laying soon. I finally decided on a plan that would both fit my site and use materials that I have on hand. Some of that old wood is like hammering into cement!, but I think I am getting stronger. The coop/shed/?? is 5'x16'. I have the metal on the roof, siding up and the insulation in the back of my van for tomorow. I found lots of cool windows, screens, etc at the local Habitat for Humanity. Will get some paint there too. The girls will be in their new house by next week, and then I start on the run. I look forward to a summer long project--and I can't wait to start dolling it up. I have some grapes I want to plant along the entrance, and shell beans for shade. My friends say I'm "chicken obsessed" because I check out this site every nite--oh well--I love it:)
