I ate some store bought bread today and...

Haven't bought store bread in over a year now!! Brought a couple of loaves for a camping trip and EWWWWWW your right gooey and yucky!! I get a 50 lb bag of whole wheat flour for 15 $ and yeast in bulk for 4$!! Way cheaper. And I can make bagles, doughnuts, pretzels mmmmmmmm

Never Store Bought Bread. I put all the ingredients in the Food Processor.....pulse to a ball and there is the bread dough. You can add or delete any ingredient. Regards, Aria

As others pointed out, what you're doing wrong is buying yeast in cute little packets that are intended for people who bake once a year. Buy your yeast in bulk and you won't have that problem. I pay less than $3 for 1 pound of yeast at the local Amish store.

There is a local bread shop that makes the most amazing bread, and I cannot replicate it. Anyone have a surefire recipe for a whole wheat/multigrain, chewy, lightly moist bread that doesn't crumble? I have a hard time making non-bricklike WW bread....

Have you tried playing around with some of the common additives in your recipes? I had to mess around a bit with lecithin, egg, vital gluten and yeast amount until I came up with a good balance for us.

I do tinker a bit, usually it's great the first day and then it get crumbly. Took a break from home-made because I had a lot of flops and needed to drop it for a while.

I make my own bread in the winter. It's been too hot this summer to turn the oven on.(luckily, we have a gas grill) Once I tried giving my chickens store bought bread as a treat. They flat out refused to eat it.

I guess they like my homemade bread too. I make one white and one 100% whole wheat every 2-3 days during the winter. I make my own buns too. Yum!

I'm with you all - particularly on store bought white bread. Can't eat it.

I do buy some of the multi-grain stuff. Better (not as good as home made, of course) but kinda pricey. You have all inspired to make my own!!

Maybe it's how you're storing it?
