I bought feed at China Mart!

Or "Why I love Wal-Mart". It looks like it is breaking about even on the love/hate thing.

Folks on the hate side only started explaining the reasons after it was suggested it was mere irrational emotionalism that caused us not to shop there.

It certainly was interesting to hear the reasons, though. I learned something, for sure. I'll stick to my assessment of emotionality on the issue - but that is alright. It's okay to disagree.

Gee, thanks. Mighty big of you.

I will continue to assert that mine, at least, is a largely rational choice (emotions are always involved in any choice we make, so I won't pretend I am entirely emotionless) based on the facts available to me, as I look beyond my own narrow short-term monetary interests to my long-term, broader interests along with those of my local community and the environment.

I don't hate or love Wal-Mart. It is just a store that is there. If they
are the most convenient place for an item there are no objections.
If the local stores sold specialty items that Wal-Mart can't afford
to sell they can stay afloat.

I'm not going to drive 30 miles for feed on the weekends when the locals
are closed up. If the local store wants that weekend business they need to
open up the doors. A local company makes the feed so, they are keeping
their jobs regardless.

Yeah, I don't know how you could have gotten all that out without some emotion fueling it! I like you

Wally World is where I get the most bang for my buck & as a shopper that's all I really care about. In reality Walmart doesn't cause the demise of many stores but bad business practices does.

I think that's fine. Some of us care about considerably more than that, though.

I do believe there are lots of folks who don't have much choice due to lack of funds. It is difficult sometimes for me to put my principles before my bank account, but I generally find it a better way to live. In this case, however, it isn't, since I buy most things used through yard sales, thrift stores, auctions, and Craigslist.

And that is always cheaper than any store out there, including Wal-Mart.

Boy this has kicked over the ant hill! I try to support locals. But at what percentage do I cut my losses? I figure a substantial savings is a good thing.

Now, let's not go getting all emotional about it!

You remind me of me: full of fire and stirred up when a cause gets you going. While we may see things from different perspectives, its people like us that get things done.

Careful, you'll sprain your shoulder patting yourself on the back.

I know lots of people that "have to" shop at Walmart. One is my SIL who leases a new car every two years, vacations once or twice yearly & built a big house a few years ago. I have no doubt some people think they have to shop at Walmart. Here I can get just as good a deal on most things somewhere else, as WM raised it's prices after they were entrenched. I do step into WM once or twice a year, but do not like the place or it's business model. To each his own.
