I Built A Bridge!

8 eggs today! Woop Woop! One short (lucky's) but that is not such a loss. Her eggs are small so I save them for myself. One more and I have my two dozen. I guess they heard my grumbling this morning. All 5 EE laid an egg. I removed the nesting tub from the school house as MJ has made the full transition back to the big coop. No more rubber or mini eggs from the welsummer. I made note of where she is on the roost tonight, so I will be able to check for any oops eggs in the morning. We are at the 19 week mark, so any day now. Just a welsummer and Mable, a Buff orp look close enough. The suspense is killing me!!

Funny to hear you all mention changing names… should I feel guilty that I have forgotten what I named the welsummer twins? Oh man… I forgot what I named the marans twins too. Maybe I have an excuse for the welsummers… I was holding out hope that one would be my boy. I'll have to snap some pics and let you all help out.

Teila, can I request a fluffy off the nest broody tina pic next time you get a chance?

Marie, All of the yellow chicks that I have had were white leghorns, so I am afraid I am not much help in that department. Michaels? How cool! I could spend hours in that place. Good thing that I have to drive to the city to get there, or I would be broke!!

First day of 4k for my little one today. He had a great day, and I survived the long 3 hours!! Tomorrow night I am filling in on the rec league softball team that I used to play with. Gonna try this knee out for the first time. I hope it holds!! I made no promises on my performance, after all I am stepping out of retirement!!

Teila, have you checked out ozexpat's thread "Getting the flock out of here" yet? Long long long read, but I have really enjoyed it. Just a suggestion to add to your BYC stalking list. Though, be prepared, it may render you useless in all things until you are caught up (it did for me… the house was a wreck!).

MM Congrats on the 8 eggs! Wow, 19 weeks already, shouldn’t be long now! I got 3 eggs today which is pretty good considering I only have 5 gals, one broody and one yet to lay her first egg.

Looking forward to the pics!

Not so sure how I will go trying to get a pic of Tina off the nest; she does not stand still for very long and is only off the nest for 10 minutes or so; I will give it a try though.

I am familiar with Oz’s writing. I haven’t read his thread but he provides much entertain in ‘The Old Folks Home’ thread. He is a very interesting character with some life adventures that I, for one, find totally daunting.

Did someone mention a "fluffy off the nest broody Tina pic"?

MM it actually turned out to be easier than I thought it would. Tina had a stretch and something to eat at about 12:30 today. As she has only really been having one a day, I did not expect her to have another one. When I let everyone out at 4:00, I open her little door so that she can watch what is going on without having to leave the eggs and hopefully give her a break from the monotony. Today, after her door had been open for 10 minutes or so, she decided to have another stretch and I raced in and got the camera.

Please excuse the temporary fence spoiling the image but not having it in the shot meant getting in the run with her and I try not to do this so that she has an area all of her own. This fence is so she has a bit more room to wander without being hassled by the rest of the family and it also comes in handy for keeping bubbies under control; when they have grown up enough not to squeeze through the gaps that is!

Without further ado I give you one fluffy broody Tina .....

She has got herself quite a nice nest .....

In this one she is just settling back down, making sure they are all tucked up .....

I know I am guilty of extreme bias but I do believe I have a beautiful broody!
wink.png

I was trying to capture just how flat she makes herself on the nest but the camera does not show it as well as I hoped .....

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments; I will pass them on to Tina

I have no idea how she stays so white either! She rolls in the dirt like everyone else and ends up so dirty but then a couple of hours later, sparkling white again

You all know that I love my gals and I do remember saying that I do not have a favourite but there is something about a broody on a nest that just tugs on the heart strings!

You know how they say that women have a ‘glow’ when they are pregnant; I wonder if the same goes for a broody hen … how could you not love that sweet face?

Liz lolz at “blue makeup” .. just cos a gal is broody does not mean she can’t look her best on the nest

Woo hooo .. let's get this Friday over and done with and bring on the weekend!!!

This chica egg from yesterday on the left looks quite different than this brown egg found in the nest box today. Hmmm... Is a wellie contributing to the egg basket?
