I can shoot if need be right?

No, a double barrel 12 gauge with 00 buck shot. That will teach him a respect!

Just make sure it aint my dog. I've got much heavier artillery than that. He would never run wild like that, but he is entering puberty so it wouldn't surprise me for him to take a tour or 2 even when closely watched. He's also already deer/horse/cattle/chicken broke though. If you had ducks there might be an issue but he's got a soft mouth so he'd retrieve them alive. I hope you'd use a little discretion. That's why I favor the gradual escalation of force in this case. Give 'em a good stinger first, in my experience the dogs and deer don't come back much. When they do they pass through very quickly. There are lots of people and dogs in the world and we all have to live together. Only the hardest cases deserve a death sentence.

I have always started with a BB or pellet gun. That worked for about 99% of the stray critters that wanted to explore my yard to see either the chickens or look in the windows at my sissy housecats. The latter causes them stress, they fight and urinate inappropriately so no peeking in the windows!! The neighbors that let their cats and dogs roam know that I will shoot the instant their animal crosses the property line and now their pets walk the line very carefully and if they must step over they do it quickly at the corners and don't even look in my yard

That other 1% though have either met the sherriff, animal control or hubby's .22 rifle. Problem solved.
