I can't believe I just agreed to do this!

My sis did ours.....she did 3 different cake rounds and used fondant.....pretty easy to do , then shaped the flowers by hand . She made a cinnamon cake that is to DIE for !!!! If you want to try the recipe you can pm me or if you have any ?'s . We still have tons of decorations and coasters that you can print off pics to put inside if you would like them , small fish bowls I put colored glass in water and floating candles ( spent 20 dollars at the dollar store !) Anything you need just let me know....it's for free....I'd just have to have the money for shipping . I know how much stress there can be.....I was out of town until 3 weeks before my wedding....we had 150+ people there . It works out in the end....just keep in mind not everything will go according to plan , and that's okay !

I was in charge of decorating my SILs cake last summer. I used real flowers (like groundcover roses) and tied them with ribbon into miniature bouquets. That way they could be removed easily when it was time to cut it. It turned out beautiful, simple and elegant, I used long sheer ribbons that hung down delicately.

The day before the wedding, all of the family got together and put together vases using fresh flowers bought at the farmer's market and flowers that people brought. Us locals also lent our outdoor potted flowers for it. It all turned out gorgeous and very natural, with a minimum of expense.

What talent! Enjoy the practice cake(s) and don't futz with icing decorations unless you really want to. The most spectacular cakes I've seen (and tasted) lately were done with live (sometimes edible!) flowers and ribbon. The lovely (read ICKY) icing you have to use to make pretty decorations is a PITB as I recall (but I'm not talented that way), and the flowers and ribbon could be moved and distributed as favors as the cake is cut. Congratulations, and you'll have a wonderful day (I'm partial to small weddings, since that's what we had!).

That cake is beautiful. I might try playing around with fondant, but my SO really wants a buttercream cake. Those I know how to do. Just have to practice making my flowers, haven't done that in a long while.
Thanks for the offer on the decorations too.

We are not having a reception. We'll be married fireside in the sitting room of the suite we've rented at a mountainside lodge. Then we'll be taking the kids to dinner at the lodge restaurant.
Thanks again for your kind offer.

Recently went to a Valentine's day wedding w/cupcakes. It was really neat. Decorated w/red icing and hearts.

I like the idea you have. I bet they turn out amazing

I had a square cake w/a bow & Ribbon instead of flowers & topper (faux flowers on ribbon)

A two or three tiered small cake with plain creamy buttercream frosting would be delicious and appropriate for a small wedding. I remember a lovely cake in Courntry Living magazine that was just 3 frosted tiers decorated on the top tier with a small bouquet of small petaled flowers tied with lots of thin satin ribbons in pastel colors that cascaded down the tiers of the cake. I loved the simplicity of it. I would think you could use pound cake for the cake tiers.
