Chehalis, WA with my chickens
So I was looking through the featured stuff on BYC homepage, when I saw a photo of a chicken with a purple, vice-like thing around her head preventing her from opening her beak or seeing straight forward! This was posted by a user "Miss.Chicken". @BYC Support please take this down! This is animal cruelty and I personally don't think we should support this on BYC. Please take it down. I can't believe this wasn't taken down a while ago. I'm not trying to hate, get anyone banned, or start a fight, I'm just trying to prevent people from doing this to their chickens

Think it is, was trying to find a pic & info. This was posted April 8, 2011 by BethieofVA...
RAsChickens is this it?

I know it looks like my girls are watching a 3D movie, but these suckers have helped immensely! I have witnessed no more pecking, picking and bullying in the past few days. It looks like my one hen is on the mend. I am so grateful for these ugly little blinders. LOL!!

That's what the vice-like things looked like!

I'm not sure. What are those?
Those are what those chickens are wearing. I'm not a fan of them either but occasionally they need to be used on a trouble making bird to prevent cannibalism.

Generally not crowding chickens will keep them from pecking each other, but occasionally one need extra help. I suppose it's either those or being culled for it.

I personally don't like no crow collars, but it's a part of the hobby unfortunately too.

It's "pinless peepers" that oldhenlikedogs mentioned. I don't like "no crow collars" either & since I can't have Cocks, don't keep them. Thank goodness I haven't had to deal with "bullies" but rehoming works for me. I'm allowed only 6 where I live, my Chicken House is 8 x 12 x7 enclosure with a huge plastic dog house for nest box...4 is a good number & I fight chicken math every Spring :(

Are those blue Wyandotte?

Yes they are. A friend gave them to me to raise, she's looking for a Cock to breed them with. They went back to her this past April, miss them although she's still searching for a male. She's having them set on some Barnyard Mix eggs to "test" them as setters & mothers, so far so good. Now I have 4 BOs which are great too, love both these breeds. Hope to get some BLRW or Blues from my friend down the road.

I love my buff orps and my BLRW, but would also love some blue Wyandotte. You have a good friend.
