Honestly, I would do nothing, and I would not have called the people with the rooster. Holding an animal without payment first usually doesn't happen, at least not around here if the deal is with a stranger. It's a first come first served situation, and if you guys really really wanted it, you should have gotten it asap.

Awww, that's too bad that happened. It's a downright shame for someone to go back on their word after an agreement has been made. It's not your mom's bad for trusting them at their word no matter how many roos she might have been wanting to rehome herself. People who are good to their word believe everyone else is, too, and can't imagine others not being so, even in this day and age.

Although I don't agree to hold anything for those I don't know, if the roo owner intended first come first serve they should have specified that and not promised to hold him for your mom until a specific date keeping her as a backup. Unscupulous as it would be either way, based on the owner's less than honest phone manner, maybe the roo was much less than portrayed, or unhealthy, and it got to a point that couldn't be passed off in person. Who knows why people do those things but I'm sure there's a better roo out there for your mom.

I'm a little confused. You were going to pick it up on December 9th, but didn't? Then today you found a message (dated when?) that says she found it another home. Right?

I say if you missed the original pick up date, they assumed, like I would have, that they'd driven to meet you for a pick up, you never showed up, so you don't want it. I'd also be annoyed if I drove a while to meet you and you never showed up. So I wouldn't react in any way except to apologize for not letting that person know I wasn't coming to begin with.

Now, if you'd arranged a different pickup date (Jan 9th, perhaps?) and she messaged you on the 1st to say never mind, then, yeah, I'd be annoyed because if they wanted it gone sooner they should have told you so. Maybe you could have gotten it quicker or at least been given the option to say no, I can't get there that quick.

It was a free rooster. And I found out what happened.
Animal control came and told her they were going to euthanize it or she needs to get it out immediately. So she and her fiance took it to a rescue where she can visit him and such. Sounds okay to me, but my mom is skeptical. I still don't see why she hung up on my mom like 3 times without even giving a chance to say her name or anything. Oh well.
I'm letting my mom get over this (she's really upset) and there's a lady in my town selling sussex/coronation mix roos for 20 bucks. I told my mom I will pay for a roo, she said she will think about it. It's alright though, I kind of have my heart set on this sussex mix, he looks alot like a previous roo we had that my mom LOVED. They're 6 months so hopefully we can train him to be used to people and my mother will be happy!
