I can't even get an interview... NEW TWIST Post #107 !!!!

Keep an eye out for local nursing homes, and organizations that work with the developmentally disabled. Most nursing homes run CNA training. It's hard, often dirty work, but it's steady, and with the aging population positions are increasing. Many employers will also offer tuition assistance if you want to go to nursing school if you're willing to sign a contract to work with them for a period of time.

Tried that route, here most of the CL jobs are scams. They send you an email and want you to either pay or sign up for something

I'm sorry but I do not understand all the "bleeding heart" stuff for businesses. I, too, have a small business and the taxes on it are not killing me. While I don't LIKE paying taxes, I still do it. But when companies the size of GE pay less in taxes than *I* do, I don't think the problem is an inability to make money here. I think it is plain and simple greed.

A lot of companies do well on items made and sold abroad, but lose money on those made here. Eventually, it seems like most manufacturing will be abroad. Sad, but that is the way it seems.

In the case of GE, they seem to be very well connected politically. I read where they will pay no taxes. They know the tax laws and use them skillfully. Also, they do not seem to be very USA oriented. Remember they worked through another party to sell vital equipment to the Iranians.

These companies are joint stock companies, and anyone with the money can buy their stock. As more and more of the ownership of these companies become foreign owned, the less their allegiance seems to the USA. I think they just keep their incorporation in the USA so that they have a foothold in this market.

The day is coming when a good many companies will be moving their headquarters and incorporation abroad. It will really hurt us tax wise and job wise when the Chinese cash in some of the dollars and buy GM or some of the other large companies. With that, they will acquire vast amounts of patents, industrial equipment and a distribution network. I shudder to think about all of the military expertise they will get in such a purchase.

Have you tried one of those Manpower places, that hire short term or daily??
I have a friend and former roommate who got steady work doing that, it I believe led to a permanent job.
Also a company like Qualitemps? they offer both warehouse/industrial type jobs and office positions.
I am sure the name is different.. but perhaps look to a place that does temp to hire... a lot of companies look for
people that way.. it allows the company to have some one else do testing, screening and back ground checks.
Hope this helps in some small way.

I can tell you guys that from almost daily contact with lockedhearts, she is doing EVERYTHING humanly possible to get a job. IMHO there is no recovery of the economy at this point.

I guess if one has a job, they should do everything possible to keep it. The politicians say we are in a recovery, but I just don't see it.

The last great depression lasted from October, 1929 to December of 1941. I am afraid I will not live to see the end of this one.

If one was to emigrate, what part of the world is most open to innovation and investment? If I wasn't so darn old, I think I would take my chances in Brazil, Argentina or Chile.
