I can't imagine living in the North....

only -2 .........
The chickens are playing in the snow again!
They don't seem to mind the cold much.

some prefer to roost outside during the day even in the cold. You can see them playing outside at -30 on my BYC pages.

We get seasons.... just how I like them "both" hot and cool! lol! I have also lived all around our USA and I HAPPILY live here in the south by choice. As we like to say, "we don't have to SHOVEL sunshine"! When we lived in north Georgia, I Hated all the cold wet muck and mud. I don't mean any slam or disregard to any northerners, (hell, I married one

, quiet the contrary, I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT? It would kill me to have to deal with what you do. I agree that some of the snowy scenes are spectacular, I just may be too lazy to deal with the day to day to make this "my" world.

lol, every winter I wish I lived in a more Southern climate, I don't know how my animals manage up here! (I live near Winnipeg MB) Its currently approx. -27 degrees without the windchill. We've had nighttime tempertures of about -40 and colder sometimes. I usually keep them inside when it gets this cold but today I was adding new straw so I let them out into the yard (they're free ranging chickens) my dog got excited and started chasing my little white hen, Peaches. She is really small and a very good flier. So she went straight up and landed on the roof of the barn! I couldn't get her down so i decided tocome back when it got darker and see if she had come down. But she wasn't on the roof or in the coop when I came back so I got worried and ended up finding her sitting on top of a trailer parked nearby. It was blowing pretty hard and it had to be colder then -30. I climbed up the trailer and almost lost all my fingers! I picked her up and the poor thing was shivering so hard I thought she was sure to die. I nearly fell off the trailer trying to climb down with one hand and got her inside. I hope she's ok tomorrow morning!

One thing I know for sure, if I hadn't found her she would have been a popsicle by morning

It's a mindset and by the end of a cold snowy winter many of us are happy it's over but we also appreciate the mild weather more because of it.

I think the thing I get sick of the most in the whining from the people who live up here and complain constantly about the winter weather. Most of those people are never happy with anything but listening to them gets old. Then there are the idiot weathermen who predict the world is ending over 2 inches of snow.

It's all what you like, what you are brought up with, and what you are used to. July and August here KILL ME. Tooooooo hotttttt....

The ladies like their layer pellet mash, we add some hot water each morning.

They like to go out and about in the snow but only for a short bit then back under to coop.

I agree that some like it hot some cold....

I'm a cold guy myself.

Paiger too

I'm in central NC so I guess I have a bit of both worlds. We have nasty, cold winter days and we have warm, mild winter days. Thing is, we usually get them in the same week!

Yesterday was cold and rainy... today was a little warmer but the sun never peeked out once, so the sky was solid white and depressing. I'd like to have about 1 month of cold winter, 1 month of hot summer and 5 months of warm spring and 5 months of cool fall!

The winters are harder but I was getting really tired of cutting the grass (2 acres). I'm so thankful for what God has provided. There are pros and cons to both seasons. But for me personally I like having the change of seasons. I spent 4 years in southern calif with all the traffic and freeways and millions of people. I felt I didn't really appreciate the sunshine and warm days because that was the weather 99% of the time. Living in this area is a personal choice. It's not always easy, but for me this is home. And I love it.
