i'm in the north Ga. mountains, GODS country. I spent most of last week in Detroit and thought i was going to die -5 degrees and the wind was whipping. I don't know how the folks up there ever get used to it. then again i get cold any time it gets below 50.
In 8 or 9 years I can retire and I've been watching the weather in various parts of the country. I live in NY, but being on the coast it's not as bad as upper NY State. However, I've grown disgusted by the cold, snow and ice. When I retire I want none of it.
But I also don't want the heat and bugs of Florida. I want to move somewhere where real grass (and not crabgrass) grows. So I was thinking North Carolina or having seen this, Georgia has now aroused my interest. I also happen to have some cousins down by Stone Mountain, but I definitely don't want to live by Hotlanta either.
I have also considered West Virginia. Can anyone tell me the climates of these places?
So what's a nice place to move in NC, SC or GA where snow is minimal, freezing temps unusual rather than the norm, where it doesn't smell like swamp, where grass is grass and the bugs are smaller than chickens? Somewhere where it's not so hot in the summer as to cause spontaneous human combustion. Oh, lower rather than higher property values might count some too.
I love ontario, love my town, love the weather. I like the fact St.Catharines tends to miss all the huge storms. What i don't like it having to wory about where to put my pets in -30 weather

Can I come with my chickens?? My stomach has been in knots the last few days. It's been really cold (colder than normal for this time of year) and I've been worried sick about my chickies. It's my first winter with them. I've read all I can and am monitoring them, but I'm a worrier by nature... I wish I could have patandchickens on speed dial, but she'd probably change her number!

Terrific! I can barely take another winter up here. Please PM me your address. I have started packing. Anything you'd like me to bring from up here? Some fresh maple syrup perhaps?
i love indiana it has such a contrast of seasons you can really tell that is how it is throughout the midwest i guess i feel bad for IL, WI, and MI for their huge snow storm that hit and missed us it was 13 deg here this morning with a wind chill so it was like 5 degrees and in the summer it can get pretty hot but nothing major which is nice............. but i would love to live down south but i dont think my ducks would they like to play in the snow
bless their hearts, me on the other hand not a big fan of it we've only gotten like an inch or an inch and a half tho this year it will be horrible by like january b/c it always does
