I can't keep them all :(

I see that you also have some Welsh Harlequin's. I have 8 in my incubator right now that are in the development stage that should hatch on the 20th.
Oh wow! That sounds so awesome! I wanted to hatch some but the girls hadn't quite come into lay yet when we lost our drake, so their eggs weren't fertile. Now we are down to just the hens.

My next door neighbor has 3, but it's 2 drakes and a hen. He need's more girl's, so we got shipped one's for me to hatch.

Problem is too, I see a lot of these super light SGE chicks (like Peep) seem to feather out just gorgeous, and I'd hate to have to give one away that actually might have some of the prettiest coloring :(

Well, it turns out I many not be so cold and heartless after all. Lol Or maybe it's just cos I think she'll be so darn pretty! 😍 But I did pull Peep on over the keeper brooder with the Wyandottes and her lighter SGE sisters. There was a bit more of a kerfuffle, and at some point she actually managed to escape the brooder! 😲 But she's fine. I really don't even think the others would fit through the bars anymore either, except her lol

Anyway I'm hopeful that making room for her won't make or break anything space wise or flock dynamic wise. She's so small, she's at the bottom of the pecking order and she knows it. But she still holds her own and doesn't get picked on really. Even these feisty ones seem to be respecting her need to be closer to the light and things like that, which is nice. She and Carmella have been glued to each other, she and Ivy are about the same size, and there's just a bit of tension over whether Marshmallow or Sylvia is the head chick in charge, but I'm pretty sure it's Marshmallow. Sylvia isn't thrilled about it, and she's basically just biding her time till Marshmallow makes a mistake. Lol Peep stays out of it.

But honestly, I'm sort of getting rooster vibes from the red one anyway, which of course at two weeks is anyone's guess, and remains to be seen. For one thing, she almost looks bigger than the Bieles already, even though she was hatched a day later? So that would be another issue altogether, in which case it would be a real shame to keep her away from her initial flockmates kind of for no reason. I'm not going to ever breed her, but I truly don't have space to start breeding yet anyway. So what difference does it make!? I will just chalk it up to letting the feisty ones take a day or two to sort things out, and making sure she was getting strong enough to get thrown in there with them again (because she really does like snuggling with the Bieles 😢). Ughh can't we just build a second coop!???? A little bitty one!?? :(

So there's plenty of time to see where things go, but that's what happened today. :)

The problem is, once you get your 2nd coop built, it doesn't stop there! Then you need another coop, this time bigger and better! :lau
Exactly! I heard someone say they are building an 8x12 coop and splitting it down the middle, and I'm like, see that seems reasonable! Though I wouldn't need to split it, only maybe include a broody area. Which of course sends me down another brand of chicken math rabbit hole calculating run space and footprint... I've got it bad lol
