Okay, great ideas! But now an additional question.
I am planning a run based a bit on fireguy's run.
16' long x 8' wide. 2 center posts, one at center, one centered between the end posts.
Planning to use 8' landscape timbers as posts, 2' into ground and 2x4's for all rails. 2x4's on faces of posts to keep a smooth outside surface for 1/2x1/2 hardware cloth.
Top rails to span the 8' width, braced by the center posts @ 4'
Picture a 9 post square, arranged in 3 rows of 3 posts- except one end removed as it will attach to our coop.
I'll take some pics as I do it next week, but have a new question:
How do you attach pieces of hardware cloth together? I was thinking split furrels (I think they are called) as used in making cages, but I don't have a supplier for them. I read somewhere that blunt hogrings work, too, but I'd really like the furrels better.
I want to maintain a secure fence, so likely going to overlap a square or 3 and fasten them together.
Anyone have a reasonably priced supplier for these?
I built a pen out of what I had laying around and a few purchases. Mine is a bit more simple that what you are planning, but maybe you can get some ideas from what I posted. There are more pics and details on the second page. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=540192
I also have a pen made from dog run kennel panels, similar to what fireguy attached to his wooden frame. I didn't use the wooden supports, though.
