Okay, so my previous thread I talked about an abandoned Khaki drake.

For those people who do waterfowl rescues, how do you catch those little suckers?

I dont rescue waterfowl but I can try to help. I would suggest having a net to catch him with. Try to have atleast one other person with you then try to corner him. When you have him cornered catch him with the net.

Like a pole net or what?

Or like an actual fishing net, similar to the flight netting?

Thanks

How would we chase him off the pond? The drainage/retaining pond is only 50 feet across. I was thinking of taking an extra rope we have and having a person on each side and running the rope across the pond and just walking down the pond. Do you think he would duck under or over the rope?

LMAO!!

I can't believe you remembered that Dave! This one's not on Bragg, but it's rather near Skibo. *shudder* Hopefully he stays INSIDE the fence until we can get him crated.

How have you been?

I would try to feed it in one spot for a day or so, then sprinkle food around and in a trap, he will eat follow the food in the trap and BINGO you got a duck. easy peezey japaneezy.

the net thing is a one shot deal..If you miss, you will have to get a longer handle.. If you miss twice,
just the sight of a net will send him flying..

trap him..

once you have him caught then what?? you will really have to keep him penne up for a long time until you can tame him..

good luck..

I'll bet before you are finished, you will be ready to shoot him..

I have missed you and all the other THOOTPians. I've been spending more time on SufficientSelf since it more fully addresses my overall goals. Chickens are just a part of my hoped for lifestyle. Since I'm not on BYC as much and since it is so big I miss a lot of the posts of people I used to associate with here.

I'm glad I caught this thread.

We caught him! He wasn't too bad to catch! Here are some pics!!
