Wilton makes good paste dye, they come in little tiny jars, and there are other brands. most of mine came from a cake decorating supply store, but I remember seeing them at Wal-mart. I think there are also gel dyes in small jars too and maybe tubes. I used 1 c. water in each coffe mug and 1 Tbl. white vinegar. Just stir it till you disolve the paste coloring in cold water. I didn't measure the dye I just used the handle of a tsp. it doesn't take much , the leave the egg in the dye about 10 min, or till it's the color you like. easy peasy. You can google Wilton icing dyes to see some of their colors, but it is probably cheaper if you but it localy.
I always have some of the icing dye on hand for cake decorating, so I'm gonna have to try it tonight. The Wilton ones are usually over in the craft section at all of the Walmarts I've been to & you can buy them individually or in packs of a few different colors.
We did the same thing and ours turned out just as beautiful! I used Wilton gel colors that I had for cake decorating and we'll never go back to the old egg dyes again! We did have some white eggs so we did some white, some in varying shades of brown and some green/blue from our EE's. All of the colors were beautiful and rich but those on the naturally colored eggs were deeper and richer colors. So pretty!
Your colored eggs turned out fantastic! I tried coloring brown eggs last year with regular food coloring and vinegar but it didn't cover very well. Next year I will try it your way for sure.
One question though, did the coloring stay on the egg after you refrigerated it, or did it get wet and runny?
