I Confess: Your Worst Chicken Math

I only had 1 hen before. She was the best pet I ever had, but passed away years ago. Last month we picked up 2 chicks.

It's not a lot, but technically doubled the number lol. Definitely want more when my husband and I buy our own place though 😉

Last year I added 7 chicks to my aging flock. But then I had the WILD idea to get some MORE chicks for my broody Mama! 4 more to be exact. Well they didn't except her so we went from 4 hens to 15! So we had to build an addition to our existing backyard coop:eek:. Im not allowed to go to farm stores in spring anymore! Lol:wee

When we lived in TN, i got 2 cabinet incubators. One for incubating, and one for hatching. It ran 24/7, except when we went on vacation. I was likely up to 300 birds, not to mention the 40 some rabbits and the triple digit goats. Each breed of chickens had their own coop and run.

I picked up 2 bantam cochins to add to my flock in late January which is just enough to add to my current flock without overcrowding their coop. I liked the bantams so much that I picked up 7 more and while I was at it 4 standard pullets from RK in February. I had heard such bad things about RK and their chicks dying that I thought I would surely lose some.
6 weeks later and all 11 are thriving. So, now it's either find new homes or add on to the coop.
But, there's more...
Out of the 7 bamtams I've got 6 cockerels! So, do I build them a bachelor pad or find them new homes? But, also I still want more bantams.
