I could cry :(

Leah,

This is the kind of thing I have always done, and I'm one of the most capable women I know with tools, cars, wiring, and now for a career, computers- it's a great thing to be unafraid to try, despite not having the exact know-how to make it perfect the first time.

Kudos to you for your efforts, and cherish your mistakes- those are lessons for next time, right?

Keep hammering!

My mess up was thinking that 3 runner ducks require a house that is 3'x4'x3' made of 2x4's and 1" shiplap. It takes two of us to move it and this past week I ripped off the ship lap and I am going to construct a new house that has 1x2's for framing, screening on the sides-a linoleum floor with hardware cloth for grip and a secure door.

All that room and they used 1/4 of it - Aaargh.

I am sure the coop will turn out beautifully.

I can't say my age, forum rules;) but anyway

I really enjoy building coops, even if I tear them down or sell them. I've actually made about 200 making coops

Get free materials and sell coops for $50 on CL is a way to make a living LOL. So far on this coop I've spent 3 dollars for nails. I need to get 2 sets of hinges, and roof stuff. I see spending less than 100 on it. I keep taking breaks because Mom is all DON'T GET TOO HOT and DRINK WATER. Blah blah blah LOL. So I am not COVERED in saw dust, that breeze felt good

The coop is coming together nicely. I'm not too worried about straight edges on the wood. I discovered a magical thing. TRIM BOARD. It's my best friend. LOL. Saves me a lot of wood too, because I make the sides 2" too long for my boards. Instead of have almost half a board waste, I just cut both pieces a little short. I wish i wish I had a camera!

I have to say I'm impressed that you're out there at all. I lived there just outside of Hope Mills for a few years and the humidity is killer in the summer. I can't imagine doing a building project at this time of year. Kudos to you! Good luck, I hope it comes together quickly for you.

I had a piece of plywood that already had a pop door cut out. I used that on the back wall and I will cover it with the 1x6s later. I actually like the look of the 1x6s on the side, they just need some paint. I have plywood on one part of the roof, not nailed down or anything, just there to keep the tools warm. IDK if I already said this, but I work a little and take a break. Like someone said, Hope Mills has SUCKY weather. The occasional breeze is LOVABLE. There goes 10 pounds of sweat today (JK) but it sure feels like it. I love my fan, it's soooo cool.... LOL I think I'm done today (not really I'll find something else I can do) IDK what roofing stuff I should use.

Our very first coop was inaccessible to humans. I had to crawl through the chicken door to get inside.

It was also on a hill, so I usually ended up slipping when I got through the chicken door and rolled down the hill. After that happened a few times I demanded we build a door... which was too low so I always hit my head on it. Then we got a new coop and all was well.

Ahhh I remember my first coop hehe. It was a 8x4x4. We got homedepot to cut the one sheet for us. The top was a plywood sheet weighed down by cinder blocks LOL. I think we've come along way. I have built this whole thing by myself. No money to bribe helpers
