I could just throw myself on the ground screaming and kicking my feet!

I live in Central Maine and don't use any water heater despite our low temperatures. I have four Miller metal double wall waterers and rotate two each morning. I fill each waterer with warmish water and this has helped to slow down the freezing. One thing that might help, place your waterer in the middle of your hen house. It helped me.

I paid $14 for the heated dog bowl the same day I bought the chicken waterer. I wish I would have bought a dog bowl for the chickens, too. It has worked great and I have a stack of cement blocks I could have set it on. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Just don't let those heated dog bowls go dry.

I have one for my barn cats and when they empty it (thirsty little guys) one will curl up in it and have a nice warm bed for the night.

Of course, my cats (that I picked up from the shelter) aren't smart enough to do that, it's the neighbors cat that I find in the bowl all the time!

I got tired of the "flip over" waterer by the time my first batch of chicks had been using one for a week.
Nothin but buckets and dog pans here!!!

We have 2 heated dog pans for winter in the coops, and 2 flat-backed 8qt buckets out in the yard for "everyone" (dogs, cats, chickens).
I use a small black rubber dish in the chicken tractor for growing out chicks until they are tall enough to use the 8qt buckets.
