I CRACKED ON ACCIDENT!

Hi! I am really worried for my duckling egg that I was positive it was dead, so I cracked into the air sac and quickly realized it’s breathing. I’m not sure what to do! Please Help! View attachment 2356748View attachment 2356749
Put it in the incubator, & keep it moist. You can use some coconut oil every now, & then, some Triple Antibiotic Ointment, or use higher humidity(not excessive though).

I agree, definitely no water. Some type of oil only. Vaseline works best for me, for longer situations. I like coconut oil for shorter duration moisture. (Comparing length between reapplications, Vaseline lasts longer) :D

Also, it is not shrinkwrapped. There appears to be good moisture inside the membrane, the baby still has quite a ways to go. So chances aren’t great, but they aren’t nil either, in my opinion.

I'm trying to find the video of when I first opened it and the last video...where you can see the huge difference in the way the vein look.

Pay attention to how the veins look in your egg.

just do all that you can to save her life and let the nature do the rest..if i were you i would cracked some unfertile egg shell and tape with it ti part where it cracked🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Ugh. I don't know what to tell you, I'm sorry. There's pretty much zero chance of it surviving. For 12 days left, bacteria is going to grow like crazy and kill it. If by some miracle it did make it to hatch day, it would have a yolk sac infection. Unless you have a lab setting and a completely sterile environment, it just can't work. I've tried this five times with chickens, and they never make it. Even if they're kept as sterile as possible. Plus, if you though it was dead, there's probably something else wrong with it. Embryos that look weird during candling almost always quit before hatch day. You can try to cover it with saran wrap, rubber band it on, and put it in a cut TP tube, like this

and try, but if you have any other eggs in the incubator with it the bacteria will spread to your other eggs and compromise them. You'd have to keep the humidity around 65%, try to never touch it, don't turn it, and I wouldn't do the ointment. There's no sterile way of putting in the ointment, and if you're not touching it there hopefully won't be much bacteria growth. Do not ever touch it without gloves hands, and you can even wear a mask around it. Always change the pair of gloves each time.
It probably won't make it, but you sure can try. Keep us posted.
