I detest cable....

I've had Directv for about 10 years. It has gotten too expensive for what I watch. I will be cancelling it soon. I have been working to set up a FTA (Free To Air) system. The programs are free to receive off the satellites and it is fun. I watch all the neworks, FX, CW, MyNetwork, and all kindsof religious programming. Best of all...it is all FREE. If your interested just look up Free to air on the web. Ebay is also a great source for FTA products.

When it gets cloudy or rains or snows .... we are in the quiet zone! LOL Out here it was satelite computer connection or nothing (our land line is not very good - its in very bad shape - if it rains ... no land line so we have a cell)! So when the weather gets icky we have no tv or computer internet! Suddenly you have to communicate with the rest of the family! LOL Hubby usually reads and I play with the kids. I make a great pot of imaginary ice tea for tea parties!

If I hear thunder I jump online and check the weather to see whats near then watch the little icon change and it says that we have lost internet connection. But when the weather hands us quiet time ... its really kinda nice!

Totally agree. We are upgrading to cable internet tomorrow (yay-no more dial-up) but I loath Cartoon Network, etc. When we had it before I would catch my son watching Sponge Bob constantly. I am going to have to figure out how to block it. All this because we're getting a great bundle and they "have" to add the cable channels. Ugh. If I could pick from a menu I'd be so much happier!!!

We actually asked the woman we spoke to on the phone about that. What a useless waste of time that show is!! Anyway, she laughed at us. The answer was no. So I'll have to be the bad guy who doesn't allow DS to watch it ever. EVER! (I don't like Sponge Bob, can you tell?)

I grew up with out cable then got it a few years, and now I don't have cable (well or a T.V. Really I watch movies on my computer though)

The only thing I miss about cable was History and Discovery channels...oh and Animal Planet.

The nice thing about most cable things is that you can LOCK some of the channels though to block out the little ones.

That's probably what I'll do, just block Cartoon Network, Nick Jr. etc. My son is starting 1st grade next week and I don't need him to start off by becoming a cable TV junkie!

I would be perfectly happy without TV period. We do live out in the middle of nowhere so a TV just for movies would be nice and a subscription for Netflix. Just in the winter when the snow is knee deep and we can't go to town! Cuddle up with our pets, popcorn and a great movie! But my family LOVES TV! The teenager would probablly go phsyco and my hubby would break out in an uncontrollabe rash!!
