I was thinking about it for a while! and had read some. Now I really gotta catch up! I brought home a one year old female peahen.(Now I guess I will have to find a hubby) She is a blue he said, and only had a white male...some one else got the blue male before I decided! I have to build or convert a pen quickly. Last night I put her in a "goose house" to protect. It is in one of my geese yards that is about 10 x 16 with a 4 ft. fence. I am considering putting a few taller post and netting it or building another.(But from what I read the house is too short, only 4.5 ft tall...and I'd rather have it for geese. So I may just put up another.I can move her to the aviary inside if I net part of it temporarly . It is roofed and fenced and matted... the runner ducks stay out of it anyway ;0) Looks like I will be reading here all day. Any got books or publications recommendations. I can't let mine free as I have skinny property with trailers on one side and a couple small hobby farms on the other and they wouldn't stay here. Plus we are in a National Forest area and too many predators. (I had chickens decades ago. And I raise and show waterfowl. I am just venturing into exotics! (also got some redheaded pochards :silvers at the show ....spent all my $$, but sold some runners to make up for it!!

Be sure to check out the Learning Center (look for the bar at the top of the page).
I just started with peafowl less than 2 years ago and I knew nothing about them. It's a real adventure! They can fly VERY well so make sure she is in a place she can't fly out of.
Enjoy your new girl! ;)

Any recommendations for netting type or vendors?

I got my net, working on pen. When stretching the net (polypropylene, because I got it before and it last long under UV). My top is 11 X 18.5 so what is best to put in the middle of the net to prevent sagging? I was thinking crisscross cable on the two halfs or hubby thinks 2X4 on the halves.... but then I considered "flushing" and "Murphys Law" and them smacking a 2X4 or cable even... or just one 2X4 or cable in the middle bisecting the 11 x 18...? We occasionally get snow up to 6 in. every couple years, mostly ice storms, light dusting of snow... SE. Net size is 1 3/4" holes (baseball backstop netting)
