i got 2 young peking the other day & one is about a month older than the other & she looks after the younger one like it was hers & she isnt even old enough to lay yet. im hoping they will both be good mothers.

So guys.... SHE DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So i decided to push my luck today, and see if she would adopt my day old Buff Orpingtons (5 of them) and 2 Australorps, so she has 7 new adoptees!!

All tucked in and warm.. absolutely no peeping here!!

These chicks will be lonely for a day or two.. before all their new brothers and sisters join the pen!

Shes got ALOT of work ahead of her, lol!!

So i decided shes going to be my "kindergarten teacher" and keep teaching kids how to eat and keeping em warm. This is literally all she is interested in anyways, she is constantly taking over other nests, and she clutches at least 4 times a year. She will hatch ANYTHING i put under her!! what a great Momma!!

So I understand that she hatched the Barnie chicks and then adopted all the others. Has she ever adopted chicks when she hasn't been broody or already had chicks under her? I know Silkies are big time brooders but wondering if they will look after chicks even when not broody. I have grey silkies arriving and am curious.
