I did it, I resisted the temptation

I went into a feed store, and for the first time since early March....left without chicks. I can't believe it! Mostly because they have a 6 chick minimum and my husband would die if I brought home 6 more. 2 or 3 I get away with, but not 6. Plus, all they had was New Hampshire Reds, Meaties and a few assorted pullets. My 9 year old daughter was NO help. She wanted some so badly but I did it!

I'm trying to be patient and wait for my chicks to arrive in May. Our TSC had baby chicks, turkeys, and ducks some of which didn't look to healthy.

I've never actually been in a TSC until today! I got my last 6 chicks at the Co-op. But they are closed and I was completely out of chick starter, so I had to go to TSC. No ducks, or turkeys otherwise it might have been REALLY hard to say no,lol.

I'm going to order some meaties in May, and maybe a few "neat" extras.

I love TSC! It was sooo hard to walk away empty handed

I made my weekly trip to my favorite feed store, where I am well known. I used to buy chicks there, but now that I'm incubating and hatching eggs I buy here on BYC and via eBay, I have access to more breeds of chicks than the feed store carries. (However, a few weeks ago I did get a BR pullet chick to replace my beloved Betsy, and put her in with some newly hatched cochins. I was also "fostering" a RIR chick, but I think I now own her, too.)

The feed store employee to whom I sold three silver-laced cochin chicks said, "Oh, there you are! I wondered where you'd been...." and she had photos of her chicks to share. While my feed order was being loaded, I glanced at the chicks, nothing sexed I didn't already have (and since I'm hatching now, I have plenty of straight run chicks without buying some at the feed store!), so we just talked chickens. She's got three broodies and no rooster, so I'll be bringing her some of my eggs and maybe a couple of GOLD-laced cochin chicks which hatched at the same time as the silver-laced chicks.

I just think it's a hoot I am selling chickens and eggs to a feed store employee.....

I have talked myself down the last several times when in the presence of baby chickens, but it is hard. The worst was a couple of weeks ago at my monthly meeting of our poultry club, when we had a candling and hatching demonstration of rare breed chicks. All we had to do to take some home FREE was bring our own box. I was the photographer and videographer and by the time I had filmed a bunch of Barnevelder baby chicks, I wanted to take them all home!

Quite frankly, I stopped looking at the pics of new baby chicks on here today, because it makes me want to go out and get more babies. Our weather is still rotten and I need to wait until it is warmer and more settled. I put my six week old Australorps outside day before yesterday and the weather has been miserable ever since. It's April 9th, it can't stay cold that much longer. Then ... more little peeps!

Just to let you know (in a lowered voice) most of the time they will let you leave with less than six. They let me buy 2 last time, and than I came back and got 12 bantams ( oops )
