Oh, it was hard. But I processed my first birds today, with a co-worker that's a farm girl! Such pretty birds, the hardest part really was the cutting of their heads. I didn't have to bonk them, after I held them, they sort of laid their heads back as if in a faint. If I waited too long, they'd look at me like, 'Well, just do it!' and lay their heads back again. And they were meaty! Not even 7 weeks, but I had to because the crowing was only intensifying, and lasting longer. Whew. I can't believe it's going to be quiet tonight! Sleep, at last!

BUT I have 5 little carcasses in my fridge, along with a tiny banty roo who's time came at the same time.

And Saddina, it was like dissecting after they were skinned, and I found it pretty interesting!

Now to see if I can actually get myself to eat the darn things....

As my friend said, the anticipation was worse than the actual doing it.

I blogged about it if you think it would help! I swear, I read and reread everything I could put my hands on or find! I'm your typical suburbanite that never killed anything on purpose before (besides bugs) so it was a really 'Big Deal' to me! Here's my site if you're curious: http://deedolce.blogspot.com/

How
soon do you have to process?

congrats! However they really dont pass out when you flip them over like that that's just a reflex. I deffinatly reccomend bonking to avoid them the pain of the slice but if you don't mind doing that then keep doing it the way you're doing it whatever you're comfortable with is the key most newbies like doing the bonking, im not a newbie and i still do it (or another method which I dont' reccomend to anyone unless they are QUICK). LOL.

I thought about bonking them, in fact intended to, but using the cutters was so fast, it was over in an instant for them.

Still sad thinking about this morning...
